Just bought a 1080p plasma and a PS3... What's next?

by WheelmusPrime - 4/22/08 4:59 PM

Having just purchased a Panasonic TH-50PZ85U (50", plasma, 1080p) and a PS3, I'd like to round out my living room bliss with a good audio set up.

How do I do this, keeping in mind I plan on using my PS3 to play my movies (DVD, blu-ray, all that)? My only real constraints are money, as I'd like to do this for $300 or less if possible, simplicity, and without having to buy obnoxiously sized speakers. Smaller and discrete are better here!

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Do you have a receiver???

$300 is not going to get much if anything, your tv speakers will mostlikly sound better.

I found this $269.99:

Note it has no HDMI so No advanced audio + no uncompress PCM 5.1 & your going to end up replacing it in a few years

If you can:

You get a better reciver & in the future you just have to upgrade the speakers

something to consider

$100 free shipping
KRK ST6 2-Way Passive Studio Monitor

$132 Dayton SUB-100 10" 125 Watt Powered Subwoofer
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=300-633

$3 optical cable from Monoprice. or maybe even forgo the optical, and use a pair of RCA laying around.

receiver is the tough part. You are forced to look at used classifieds. Forget HDMI, or lossless audio. It will do you absolutely nothing. To me thats like trying to get a $1,000 Realta video upscalser for a 20" tv made in the 70s.

4300 for living room bliss? I think not, well, if you're thinking of an all in one system. the aforementioned recommendations should you make you quite happy, if you are ok with:

- not having surround sound
- have a centered, smaller viewing position

in which case, I would presume, at least for myself, that I would be happier with the above than any possible htib found at $300.
