Hijack This V2.0.2
I ran Hijack This today and found the following entry:
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.trymedia.com (HKLM)
I checked my Trusted sites in I.E. and "trymedia.com" is not listed, nor have I ever added it to my "Trusted Sites", that is why it is suspicious to me.
I ran my anti-spyware programs and AVG anti-virus and nothing was found.
I Googled it and it seems that it can be put there by certain games, none of which I have ever played. I also read that you can remove the checkmark in HiJack this, but only if you are "experienced", which I am not.
So, the question is, how do I remove this from my PC?
Shirley,
1. Use HijackThis to remove it.. Place a CHECK mark in the box next to the entry and execute the program..
2. Use the Registry Editor to remove it.. Open Registry Editor (regedit), then visit the path mentioned by HijackThis, then delete the entry..
Hope this helps.

and removed it. So far I don't seem to be having any problems.
Thanks once again for your help.
Shirley,
is now a division of Macrovision, but they have been doing business for a while, as far as I can tell. If you have installed or played Flash games from the internet, you are likely to have various files and registry entries from them. Yahoo games put a Trymedia directory on my system at one time' I believe it was for SuperCollapse or some such. Nothing much to fear, really.
game from PopCap Games site & for online play they install Active-X (PopCap Loader.dll) & IF you download a trial version (30 day free trial) you get the Trymedia folder in your C: Downloaded Programs file.
Mostly it a way for the online site to prove you got idea from them (if you go for CD version rather than download from net. Strongly suggest this is the best way! Often have to re-install)) & therefore they are entitled to their commission.
Note IF you have the Trymedia folder with game (s) & you purchase CD versions of the same,BE SURE you delete the Trymedia folder BEFORE installing the game(s) from CD! Otherwise you get conflict which is hard to deal with. I actually had to go to Trymedia support 3 times & they finally straightened out the conflict via remote help (kill bit I think).
The PopCap A-X is classed as "Adware". For what it's worth! ![]()
I may have played one of those games on line once, but never downloaded any of them.
I don't think Trymedia should put their site as a "Trusted Site" on anyone's computer and then HIDE it. If I hadn't ran HyJack This, I never would have known that it was in my "Trusted Sites" on I.E. Like I said, it didn't show up there. The only thing I have in my Trusted Sites is Windows Update.
Thanks again.
Shirley,
It is presumptuous and a bit invasive to alter your system's settings without allowing you the choice, or even informing you. Such things may be mentioned in a license agreement somewhere, but should be made more obvious, especially for security settings.
I am now searching for a program that will prevent this from happening again. I'm sure there is such a program out there.
Shirley,
along with any other program that tracks registry changes actively. Spybot S&D has a feature called Tea Timer that runs in the background and notifies you of changes occurring, allowing you to cancel the action. Spybot S&D is freeware.

were several years ago & they, at that time, definitely did not insert themselves in my trusted sites list.
I check that list from time to time just as an "in case" check & I keep
NO ONE & I mean zero, ziltch, nada allowed in there. Glad you spotted the intrusion & let us know with your warning! Thanks! Good Luck! ![]()
