Xbox Hard Drives

by joker5667 - 4/7/08 10:43 AM

I recently purchased an xbox 360 (20GB HDD) And i was wondering if there were hard drives that were bigger that you could use to replace the one that comes on it. is there a walk through that someone knows about that could help me out? thanks.

Yes, the Xbox 360 uses standard laptop SATA drives. You could theoretically put one of any size in there, provided you're fine with voiding your warranty by opening the case.

My advice: Wait 6-12 months so you can be reasonably sure you don't have a unit that will keel over with the red ring of death. Then if you really want to put a larger drive in, go for it.

There is the 120gb drive for the 360... Price is about $179.

I'm ok with my 20gb, but more would have been nicer.

But if i'm willing to spend over a hundred bucks for the bigger harddrive i may as well go back and get the elite. seems kinda weird that they make the harddrive but its more than the difference between the two systems. oh well.

Makes perfect sense

It makes perfect sense to sell it at such a high price point. Microsoft isn't really all that interested in selling these hard drive upgrade kits, they'd rather people just go out and buy a whole new console. This both makes them more money, and inflates the number of consoles sold, when trying to convince developers and publishers to make games for the 360. They also can then divert these hard drives for use in the production of more Elite units.

However, if someone is for some reason very much attached to a given console, and would just like to put in a larger hard drive... Well, they're happy to sell you one at a considerable markup.

As with almost everything in the business world, it comes down to money. Which option will make the company the most money, or which option will cost the company the least amount of money. That will explain probably 95% or better of all decisions made by businesses. It's all about the money, plain and simple. Capitalism's most element: Greed.

Should of gotten a ps3 hahaha almost same price as the elite that they want you to go buy has better Technology and a 80gig hard drive that you can upgrade at anytime and NOT void the warranty..Plus no risk of the red ring of death...O yea get ready to pay another 500-1000 to get the 360 2 when your awesomely crappy 360 becomes obsolete cuz mircosoft is too freaking stuipd to invest in FUTURE Technology in about 2-3 yrs LOL 360 is dead next year play it alot now itll be gone soon lolololololol
