Is my solution to this costly problem viable?

by fattmix - 4/13/08 9:32 AM

My sister's computer crashed, along with all her iTunes files on it. She has a few hundred dollars worth of songs, and we are trying to salvage them. All of them are currently on her iTouch.
My idea to fix this problem goes like this:
I would delete the iTunes program from my computer, leaving all my music files intact. Then, I would connect her iTouch to my computer, and copy all her files to my computer. Then I would back those up with flash drives. The reason I would need to delete iTunes is so that the program does not automatically synchronize my files to her iTouch, thus deleting her files.
I was wondering if anyone knows if this plan is logical and viable? Also, does anyone know of any other ways to back up the files that are on her iTouch?

I'm not sure about this, but if you bought all the music from iTunes, you should be able to re-download them with no extra cost. If it is from another music store, you could try to re-download them if it won't cost extra. If it would, you can contact them, explain your situation, and they might let you re-download all of your previous purchases. If it was ripped from CDs, then you could obviously re-rip them.

Also note: The iPod touch will not show up as an external drive no matter what you do. You can't just copy the hidden music files off the drive like you can with all the other iPods. So if that was what you were planning to do, I do not believe it will work.
