ACER COMPUTER, SA85D, WINDOWS XP HOME SP2 (PREINSTALLED)
ACER told me to format my computer with it's recovery software. (DUH! All problems don't need formats, even when it's a down-to-disk problem)
You won't find SA85D on their webpages, I bought this in Hong Kong of which this model was the cheapest (and older) model they were selling at the time.
My Windows XP Home, newly created account logs me out as soon as I log in and see the desktop color! (I don't see any Bliss.bmp background, no desktop icons, no nothing)
I haven't been fast enough to press CTRL+ALT+DELETE before it logged me off.
Also, when logging off, it still displays the "Welcome | [[name]]" thing with "Saving your settings" under the name (and in the same font as the usual "loading your personal settings"), instead of showing Windows XP logo and saying "Saving your settings"!
I'm stuck with the only account left on my computer.
I have checked the USERINIT and SHELL values. They are correct.
Don't ask me why I need the other account.
I have no viruses or malware of any kind (ran online (OneCare) and offline scan (AVG anti-virus)). I never use Internet Explorer for browsing, only for checking for compatibility with web-pages I wrote myself. (Excluding the Trident Shell built Windows Live Messenger and Microsoft Update)
I have been resetting the permissions before because of programs not being able to be accessed in Safe Mode, Administrator Account. I thought this was the cause and I ran cacls userinit.exe /G everyone:F and cacls explorer.exe /G everyone:F in CMD. Are there any more files?
And are you saying that the main "Administrator" log on works correctly? You just can't create a new user account?
Can you restart in Safe Mode and create a new user account and does it work then?
Tried running SFC /scannow to fix any possible missing or corrupted files?

And if none of the above help the situation, then reformatting and reinstalling with the Recovery Software isn't a bad idea..
Hope this helps.

It's same in safe mode.
Unfortunately the last backup was done before Java Runtime 1.5.4 was released.
If the computer is a single partition setup, try running FIXMBR from the Recovery Console command prompt.
And if this doesn't do it, then Yep, I'd use the Recovery Discs.. Depending on the options in those Recovery Discs, you might be able to do a "repair" installation which reinstalls the system "over the top" of the old setup and will "usually" do so without damaging your other files..
If that doesn't correct the problem, then a full "destructive" reinstall will be necessary which formats the disc and reinstalls everything back to factory condition.
Hope this helps.
