I think it's a sign that USB is becoming a standard after 15 years lol. Too bad it's really slow for certain things.
since USB is very available, that's cool with me.
However, I understand that some robotics projects I'd like to take up require a serial port, so I think I'll have to get an adapter to plug into my USB port...

I'm sure someone's made an adapter and driver that gives you virtually unlimited "switches" to create some pretty awesome robots! Including analog axises...
I have to have a serial port in my job for programming equipment. So not having one just isn't an option.
no optical drive? no prob just get the add on?
no ethernet just get the dongle... but at what point does it stop becoming ultraportable lol

The serial port and parallel port is all about the classic issue where you put something on the machine to support less than 1 in 10 buyers. What we may see going from now on is less need for CD/DVD, ethernet and such since many just need the Wifi connection to do what they are doing.
The summation and question becomes "Why make everyone buy features they don't need?"
F1-F12 keys?
with display port, vga? or maybe itll just be hdmi.
headphone jack replaced by bluetooth?
