A search becoming desperate

by Mathemusician - 4/4/08 2:38 PM

Really, really simple problem, not so simple finding a solution. For about a year I've been looking at bluetooth-enabled mice, but I can't bring myself to buy one because there is never enough information available. Please, if you know of any bluetooth mice that can operate with a computer with internal bluetooth sans a usb adapter, post the name and manufacturer or a link! Also, if you can personally attest to the quality of that product, please do so. I need advice, please speak up!

Just logitech and microsoft.

I will not attest to "quality" since that is subjective, but they do work with built in bluetooth.

PS. Searches. Sub logitech...

Thanks, but what I was really after...

by Mathemusician - 4/6/08 9:31 PM In reply to: Just logitech and microsoft. by R. Proffitt Moderator

Thanks, but I already have a giant list of bluetooth-enabled mice from all kinds of manufacturers. My main problem is figuring out which ones will work with the laptop's internal bluetooth without a usb receiver, because I'm finding out that some that come with receivers do, some don't, and some claim to come with or without receivers depending on where your looking and don't specify whether or not they are necessary. Any insight?

That's crap.

There is too much junk on the market. Since you wanted quality I noted the two majors and that they work.

You dismissed my answer about it working with the internal. Weird.

Let me try this again...

I dismissed your answer because it was an exemplary specimen of, as you said, "crap." If I wanted search results for "Bluetooth Mouse," I would have done it myself, and have done so several times. I'm looking for more information reaching beyond the standard three popular models, as I'm assuming that this is a more technologically-minded community that might have such information. I wanted to know:

-Of those mice that are advertised with bluetooth receivers, which, if any, work with a laptop's internal bluetooth sans the receiver?

Hopefully that is a clearer and more direct question. I'm not going to have a whole lot of money to burn on this and I am trying to find out what all of my options are. If you have any answers for me along those lines, I would be most appreciative. No undue disrespect meant.

No I narrowed down to the TWO MAKERS that

Make what you are asking for which always work with the the internal BLUETOOTH cards. It would be a pile of crap if we went outside that to all the China tossups you see out that.

I'm going to add this -> I thought it over and wonder if you confused those RF linked units with dongles which look just like bluetooth but are not. I can see where that would be confusing.

I you are looking for an article with nothing but bluetooth mice I can say I've never seen such a thing. Good hunting,
Bob

repeat microsoft and logitech

by ramarc - 4/8/08 12:16 PM In reply to: Let me try this again... by Mathemusician

microsoft's mouse that is "transceiver free" will work with your laptop's built-in bluetooth.
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=099

here's a logitech mouse that does the same: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/3287&cl=us,en

profitt sent you to microsoft and logitech because he knew they had products that specifically met your requirement. if you want to futz around with the lesser no-name brands, you're on your own.

........

by Mathemusician - 4/8/08 4:08 PM In reply to: repeat microsoft and logitech by ramarc

I can see that I was mistaken in thinking that it was possible to post on these forums and get a direct answer, even if this is the third thread. Facts:
-Logitech, Kingston, Microsoft, Targus, Razer, and many other high-profile pc accessory manufacturers make bluetooth mice
-Several of these mice that specifically advertise BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY also ship with a receiver
-Many of these mice, which are cheaper and more within the budget of a college student like myself, do not say whether the receiver is strictly necessary
What I set out to know was if anyone had experience using these mice with their laptop without the receiver. Instead I found out just how immature and ill-chosen forum moderators can be. You should both be ashamed. I will ignore any further posts on this thread from either of you, taking them only to be insignificant ramblings from over-confident tech-snobs with little or no knowledge over anything they say. Grow up.

Why the grief and gripe?

by samkh - 4/8/08 4:42 PM In reply to: ........ by Mathemusician

First rule of support is never abuse the people who are attempting to help. Maybe you'll find that out when you start working after college...or maybe you don't need to work, in which case you should be able to afford a tech specialist to do what you desire.

Have you exhausted more direct routes before coming here?

1. Have you called your notebook manufacturer to find out if a particular BT mouse is supported?

2. With all your research, have you called the major mice vendors to find out if their mice can connect to your laptop's BT?

If you have tried and failed in both, why didn't you say so from the get-go? If you haven't, DUH!!!

Actually

by Mathemusician - 4/9/08 1:23 PM In reply to: Why the grief and gripe? by samkh

I have done both of these things and have never once received anything more than being directed to their website or being sent a specs sheet. The incomplete nature of both of these is the whole reason that I created this thread. I'm looking for personal recommendations on mice that you've used or have seen used. If you don't have any, than refrain from posting. These kinds of responses are less than helpful.

Logitech, Kingston, Microsoft, Targus, Razer,

by R. Proffitt Moderator - 4/8/08 4:50 PM In reply to: ........ by Mathemusician

There's only 2 names on your list I'd consider. I'm going to reveal after dealing with some thousand machines over the years that the two I noted are the ones I'm sticking with. I'm going to pan the RAZER since just last month I ran into one of their models that would not function without their driver. This compounded issues in Vista so the final fix was the round filing cabinet.

If saving you time and grief is not acceptable then don't read this.

Yikes

by Mathemusician - 4/9/08 1:16 PM In reply to: Logitech, Kingston, Microsoft, Targus, Razer, by R. Proffitt Moderator

I admit, that was harsh and uncalled for. I was reacting badly to everything that day. It was frustrating because your answer is all that I've been getting from anyone and, let's be honest, naming the two biggest pc accessory manufacturers in the market without so much as a model number isn't exactly helpful. I tried to get more information with a follow-up post, and you replied rudely, so I lashed out. That was unacceptable. I will say, though, that the point of this thread was to get feedback from people who had experience with a mouse/mice that they liked. Is there one in particular that you can personally recommend from your own experience or the experiences of someone you know?

direct answer?

by ramarc - 4/9/08 7:39 AM In reply to: ........ by Mathemusician

i posted the *only* mouse that microsoft makes that will connect to a laptop's builtin bluetooth. i also posted the *only* mouse that logitech makes that will do the same.
kensington has two such mice, the si670m and the pilotmouse: http://us.kensington.com/html/13201.html
i found all these mice quickly by just visting the manfacturer's web site.

that's 4 mice that the manufacturers clearly state will work with your laptop. how can you get more direct that that? as for price, all 4 list for $50, so i don't think you're going to find a cheaper alternative.

seems like there is one party in this thread that "needs to grow up" since that party rejects direct, focused advice and is too lazy to hit a few websites on his/her own.

Hello

by Mathemusician - 4/9/08 1:21 PM In reply to: direct answer? by ramarc

I'm well-aware of all of these. As I've said before, this thread is supposed to spark input from those who have had personal experiences with these kinds of mice, which ones they were, and if they liked them or not and why. I'm perfectly capable of searching for other models of my own and have a list of 37 infront of me ranging from 20-140 dollars from 12 manufacturers, and they all look fine. I'm looking for personal recommendations, not search results and rude replies.

Why not ...

by Kees Bakker Moderator - 4/9/08 1:27 PM In reply to: ........ by Mathemusician

take your laptop with you (that's what laptops are for), visit a nearby computer shop, ask the question and when they say "yes, take this one" answer with "demonstrate that it works and I'll buy it" or "of course I may return it if it does't work?" or "can you show me the specs in the user manual or on the cd that's in the box, so I can see you're right?". But it might even be printed on the box.

All together, that wouldn't take longer than this discussion took you, and be more pleasant for every party involved.

Kees
