recurring folder

by TCady - 2/24/04 8:37 PM

I have this folder that keeps reappearing on my desktop. It does not matter how many times I delete it, this folder keeps comming back. There is nothing in the folder and it seems to comeback whenever I use windows media player. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this folder, its driving me crazy that I can't get rid of it. Thanks for any help.

A possible cause.

If you have AOL Instant Messenger, and have granted
someone one on another computer access to a folder on
your desktop, AIM will recreate the folder if it is
missing. That is, until you remove the permission.

Mailman, are you referring to the ~folder, or to the folder (which was not named) mentioned by TCady ?

I was refering to any folder which you would name in
AIM to give someone else permission to transfer files
from. I had put a folder on my desktop and had given
my son permission to access it from college with his
computer using AIM. It's a great way to transfer large
files quickly. So, when the need for the folder was
gone, I deleted it. But it kept reappearing on the
desktop as an empty folder until I removed the AIM
permission to transfer files from it. Then I deleted
it, and it stayed deleted. This may or may not be the
problem stated in this thread. But it's a possible one.

So maybe media player has a similer feature if it
thinks there should be a folder on the desktop and
"sees" that it is gone. So it then creates it again.

Thanks guys...it turns out that Media Player was set up to copy music into that folder. After I changed that setting the folder stopped appearing. I would have never figured that out on my own, thanks again.

I've had a folder on my desktop that would not go away for weeks now. It was just an annoyance but I really wanted it gone. I deleted it and shredded it, nothing worked - it would return a short while later. I changed the settings on Media Player and it's now gone for good.
I'm glad they keep these forums around for years so we can benefits from others' experience!
