It's one of the newer C2Ds. That should be in warranty. But the C2D laptops were usually Vista. Did you try to move to XP like others?

The Toshiba is a Satellite A105 with T7200 C2D, 120 GB Sata, 2 GB SODIMM (upgrade from 1 GB), and was purchased in 12/2006. It came originally with WinXP Pro SP2 originally installed, and that was my preference given the 3 other systems I own that run WinXP Pro SP2 almost error free. After 4+ years I've yet to suffer a BSD. I also purchased a 3-year extended warranty.

The booting problem is resolved, and I'm grateful for the crash this morning. After contacting Toshiba's Tech. Support, I was asked to:

1. Remove the AC power.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Let the system stand for ~40 seconds.
4. Reboot.

The system came up rapidly; I logged on, and Win XP Pro SP2 ran normally for the first time in over a week. All applications, includimng Windows Update, performed as expected, including rebooting when required. What a relief! The WinXP Forum is incredible! Thanks a million!! Now I can get back to building my gaming desktop.
