I went to my network places to view workgroup computers and got error message: Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The network path was not found.
I have my account set to administrator!!!!
never had problem before.
Compaq 50000 presario
Winxp Sp3
Which is not enough. Let's cover the basics.
1. Allow networking through the firewalls of the host pc, the router and the client pc.
2. If you log in as bob, test that login on the other PC. Can bob login? If not, fix that.
Bob
I have the same issue as several others in this discussion.
I receive the message "You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions. The network Path was not found."
Network:
PC 1: Win 2k, has Actiontec 704-WG installed. I can see the internet.
P 2: Win XP Pro: has wireless card, also can see the internet.
Actiontec is a wireless router/modem and have wireless turned on, my son can see the internet thru his PSP.
On PC1: Network Neighborhood/ComputersNearMe - I can see PC2 but cant share files
On PC2: Network Neighborhood - I can see PC1 but also cant share files and printer.
I have disabled my Norton Internet Security and ZoneAlarm Firewall.
In ZA: I added the IP address to share. It has 3 settings set:
Internet Zone: IP: 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0
Loopback Trusted: 127.0.0.1
Home Network: 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.254
Actiontec modem/router IP: 192.168.0.1
Each computer: 192.168.0.2 & 192.168.0.3
I want to eventualy have 3 other computers hooked up similarly but these 2 are my testing setup to get this working first.
I would rather get help here before calling for help.
Can anybody help please?
thx
Same problem as a lot of folks. Three puters hooked via switch, windows XP Pro on all, used to have no problem, now I have unrestriced access only from A computer to both B and C. B and C can not look at any of the folders/drives that A has marked for sharing. I've tried every I've come across to correct this. I used to be able to have complete sharing but something happened a while back that won't allow B and C to get onto A's resources. Don't know what to do.
My old router worked fine--could share files, folders, etc. but now file sharing has stopped working completely.
all technical problemes
Easy fixed, goto Control Panel ---> Network Connection----->
----> Local Area connection -----> Local Area Connection Properties
----> highligh file and printer sharing for Microsoft Network
----> uninstall then
reinstall back agian, that will fix the problem, it works for me.
Try it, good luck.
tkthai99,
Dude, you rock! I had scoured forums over the past 5 months looking for a solution, and I just found yours (posted just 11 days ago).
It worked perfectly! I restarted my laptop after Uninstalling File & Printer Sharing. Not sure if that step was needed, but I figured it couldn't hurt.
Thank you very much and God bless!

How do you reinstall after you've uninstalled?
Right next to the "uninstall" button is an "install" button. After you've uninstalled, click "install" and then pick "Services" from the list that appears. The File and Network gizmo will be listed in there.
By the way, I did all that and still had no luck. Then I realized that both the wireless *and* the wired Ethernet connections were connected on my laptop. I disabled the wireless connection, so that only the wired connection was active, and everything popped right up. So you might try this too...
I get the same problem, too. It's usually caused by new routers you have no priveledges for. Since the setting is new, your computer checks it out. It attempts to log in without a passkey. Some routers have a no-passkey access area I call the "torture room" - you get connected, but then you are trapped until you disconnect and set the computer to block that connection. This mode is disabled on routers without WEP protection.
Turning off the broadcasting on those routers also help, but can you really go door-to-door asking your neighbors to do that? So, with that in mind, new question - is there a way to block these new broadcasting routers that you don't have settings for?

hope this helps.
I think there are lots of things that can cause this error message but here is a solution that worked for me because it was a netbios naming issue.
In the registry go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters
and look for a key called DhcpNodeType or NodeType. If it has a value > 1 then make it 1, close regedit and restart. If the key isn't present then this is not your problem.

try the following
in the lan properties click on tcp/ip then click on intsall then ad services then protocol then close this window. now again open the properties of lan and click on tcp/ip then click properites then in advanced tab click on wins and then enable netbios.
then ensure another thing that the computer browser service is started on every pc of the workgroup to start this service right click on my computer select manage<service and applications< sercices < computer browser if it is not started then start it and make it start automatically more over configure its recovery options.
