Hey I'm trying to work through an issue I'm having while playing Command and Conquer 3 on Vista premium on my Toshiba Satellite P105-6227
I have a core duo processor, geforce go 7600 gpu, 2GB RAM.
What seems to be happening is that on mid to high graphic settings, the sound skips, causing the game to lag. I'm getting a crackling noise here and there. Disabling all the music and sound effects seems to completely fix the problem and prevent the game from lagging. However, I would like to have sound.
I have the same issue with other games but I'm using this one as my guinea pig. I have tried installing the latest sound card/video card drivers but to no avail.
HAs anyone had this problem or does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
If you feel this should work then ask them to fix or refund the machine's costs.
But frankly "games" and laptops are a poor mix. You often find it necessary to run at the lower settings than a similarly priced desktop.

Music stream drops out erratically while playing music CDs, MP3. Skips more when using mouse or changing windows. As of 5/1/07, all patches have been installed in vista + media player.
This problem even occurs when I am not running any additional programs.
I found that using the Winamp music player fixes this problem.

My audio files skip in Vista when using the Vista Media Player. They work fine if I play them with iTunes though. Must be a flaw in the Microsoft Media Player. Still looking for resolution to that.
I don't think it's ok.

i had the problem with the media plaer skipping if you have sigmatel hd audio codec thats whats causing it to skip i think its what causes the game music to skip aswell because it uses the media player to play the game sounds. well i fixed it by right clicking on the volume icon click playback devices click on the sigmatel codec then click properties then click the enhancement tab then tick disable all enhancements it dosent matter wether u have any of the enhancements on u still have to tick it then after that the windows media player should play fine.
That fixed it! (removing enhancements checkmark) Thanks! -Jim
I tried to follw your instructions but when in the media player I right clicked on the volume icon but there was no playback device icon avail. Can you help please. Im not very experienced with computers ,but Im trying
Try this. Open the Sound icon on Control Panel. Double click on "Speaker/Headphones" to open a configuration menu. Tab over to "Enhancements" and there you should find the box to select the "No Enhancements" feature. I too was having some skipping issues and this tweak appears to have solved it.
I should have mentioned that my sound card is a Soundblaster Audigy. Even though unchecking the enhancements fixed the skipping problem, I am quite disappointed with the lack of support Creative has given this not so old sound card. The functionality is basically kaput - none of the programs that run the card work in Vista, and I don't see any support coming from them. Only a basic driver so far. It seems to me that the audio card folks are all behind the curve on supporting Vista.
1) THIS WORKS! Control Panel * Sound * Manage Audio * Playback * Properties * Enhancements * Set to Disable ALL.
2) Install Winamp is a great workaround

Winamp has NO skipping problems, and is an excellent media player. Both free and Pro versions.
3) If using Sigma Codec:
Install optional Driver dated 1/30/2007
Problem driver is dated 1/12/2007

Fred - thank you! I've been trying to fix this problem for longer than I care to admit. Tried disabling enhancements - took my sound down in resolution, but nothing correcting the skipping when using Media Player or Media Center. It was the Sigma Tel codec the whole time.
Googled sigma tel driver vista and found the 1/30/07 driver. (be careful you get right version on the Dell site - they've got 2)
Since then I've been able to max out audio resolution, and reenabled bass enhancements without a skip in sound or dropped video frames.

Thanks much. This worked. I don't know how people know about all this detail.
