Suddenly can not open file folders

by mikeskid - 3/22/08 2:08 PM

If I right click on a file folder, I get about 5 choices - Search (in bold) and some others but not "open". If I double click on a folder, all folders open the "search results". box.

I have a Compaq Presario SR1810NX. It will be 2 years old in June. OS is XP service pack 2. With 1.79GHz and 448MB RAM. I tried HP/Compaq tech support, and they don't have a clue. Their solution was that I have too many programs on the computer. I am only using 1/3 of the available space on my hard drive. They wanted me to uninstall a bunch of programs. I hung up on them.

There must be a fix for whatever is directing the folder "open" option to the search results window. I can only open the folders through my Xplorer2 Lite.

Thanks so much for your help. I found this quick fix from David Candy.

Click Start, Run and type this command:

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

(Thanks to David Candy for this tip)
AND IT WORKED!!! THANK YOU DAVID CANDY.
