sony vaio's?

by mclaughlinhugh - 10/12/06 11:50 AM

I was just wondering what peoples experiences are using sony vaios as im considering buying one of their FE series of laptops but have heard they can be pretty unreliable.

At the office we had a few dozen and it was all bad.

That was years ago but it turned out the design was "not intended to be used for long periods of time." Those laptops could barely hit 5 hours without overheating and rebooting. Sony was non responsive to the issue and many units shipped back and forth until some technician told us the ugly truth.

So for me I won't touch the make. We also have the Sony Rootkit and now Sony battery stories.

In closing, Sony also didn't put drivers up for download on their products. It was impossible to clean install XP Pro on these beasts.

Even with all that, some are nice laptops but for the office we won't have them.

Still faulty?

Surely they would have rectified this problem by now, wouldnt they? Ive read a few reviews and none of them mention any abnormal behavior. Is there any other laptops you could recommend i take a look at?

I was just sharing my old office issue.

We're not going to have them in the office again. But some like the machine.

As to the batteries, they claim to have fixed it but then again they claimed they fixed the rootkit. The reality was they made it worse.

http://pcworld.com/article/id,125772-page,2/article.html has Sony ranking #5 of the all time worst and notes the fib.

I don't trust this maker.

Sony Vaios

Yeah, I don't think they're as bad as some would lead you to believe, but the fact is (although they look stylish) there is really no reason to get them because there are much better laptops out there, namely HP, Acer, Lenovo, Fujitsu, Toshiba, and pretty much any major PC company except Dell.
I don't want a bunch of Dell fanboy's screaming at me because there high end (the XPS's) are great, but there low end PC's are known for unrealiability a la Sony.

The best PC/laptop

I got my first vaio back in 2005 and it still runs perfectly, still usable, no problems at all even after 2 1/2 years. It never crashed, never had an error. I have dropped it about 5 times, and froze it with frost on the screen twice (by accident lol) still works perfectly no other company can top that.

I just recently got a SZ it works pretty good considering it has vista business, it boots up really fast and has had no hardware errors or types of problems.

The reason to buy sony is because u can get the most advanced computer technology with them, the new laptops go up to 2.5 ghz cor 2 centrino plus they use all the newest tech, im not gonna go into details.

The final reason to buy a vaio MADE IN USA!!!!!!! if you get a custom built. If you buy from their store its made in japan, still, alot better than other chinese garbage.
