Why you shouldn't buy an iPod

by marcco68 - 1/4/07 8:05 AM

Just over a year ago I decided not to buy and iPod and got a Sony-Ericsson w800 cell phone. Since then I've had so many iPod users drool over my phone.

There are SO many things this phone can do that an iPod can't. The best of all is that I don't have to carry around something extra (and fumble through pockets) to hear music and I don't have to switch headphones to get or send a call or text.

I did get an iPod for Christmas last year and ended up giving it away. The reason I'm writing this is to promote good technology so I they work on even better phones... yes, it's selfish!

Cell phones can now store 4Gig which is plenty. C'mon, we listen to the same 20 new songs we have and update them as needed. My 2Gig currently has over 50songs (192kbps - above normal quality) and 15 (3gp) full music videos.

This is why my cell is better than an iPod.

- I always have my music with me because I always have my cell.
- It also takes great photos so i also always have my camera
- It also takes good video, so I also always have my video camera
- It has a radio
- I can swap and share w/bluetooth, no wires needed
- It works like a flash drive when connected to a computer, just drag and drop.
- I can, if I want, run iTunes on it
- I can use the great music software already on it that doesn't constrict me to 50 songs, like iTunes on a cell.
- It won't wipe out my music if I connect it to a friend's laptop
- It won't ask me for usernames and passwords for songs.
- I can send songs/pics/video through a text to friends.
- I can watch music videos, which only the most expensive iPod can do.

There are just off the top of my head.

The audio quality is great. I even play it directly through my stereo at times.
The newer phones can connect to wireless speakers. I'm excited to try that out.

Inferior.

Lower output, more hiss, and if you load tracks with the memory card in-situ it's 0.4MB/Sec as opposed to 4+MB/Sec. i.e. it takes almost ten times longer to load. It's a hugely inferior experience.

Wiping music if you connect to another computer is my biggest gripe with ipods.

I wonder how the LG Chocolate ranks vs the Sony Ericsson?

nly if you answer 'yes'

Only if you use iTunes, and only if you answer 'yes' to the question 'would you like to erase the iPod'. But you don't get better than iTunes for library management so it's a small price to pay.

Programs like yamipod allow you to pirate - I mean backup - music from your mates.

It works best if you follow the corporate rules and buy your music from Apple. I get music from friends, sometimes DJ's, etc... So, they're not always properly ID'd to follow iTunes.

Before iTunes came about I already had my stuff by folders and or genre.

Managing songs.

Within iTunes, you can deselect an option which serves to duplicate an exact copy of your iTunes music library over to your iPod.

This leaves you free to add music from other computers (home and work, or home and home etc...) and delete individual songs as you like on just the iPod - or just in iTunes.

Why you shouldn't use cell phones for music

by Composer_1777 - 3/16/08 2:20 PM In reply to: Why you shouldn't buy an iPod by marcco68

They have horrible sound quality, except nokia N series, which has low battery life.

I own a W850 and yes at first i thought the sound quality was good compared to an i pod, which might be true, only because i pod sound quality is horrible. After getting some good 100 $ headphones or ones with 13.5 drivers i realised the phones volume output is horrible and does not have enough power to create the best sound.

Cell phones suck, lets face it the battery life is always horrible. LG phones r the worst and have the lowest rated talk times. Plus Verizon locks up the phone so u can't even tranfer music via bluetooth, even in DRM free mp3 formatt.

Mobile-review.com will shed light on the Audio quality of music phones if you have any doubts

Yeah - even the N95,

arguably the most media-savvy phone still loads at the pace of a stunned turtle and sound quality is not outstanding. The iPhone is, whether you like it or not, despite it's functional mediocrity one of the best phone-MP3 players as it's fast to load and isn't notably worse than most MP3 players.

itunes does NOT wipe music off your ipod

by Miloheat3 - 3/30/08 5:45 PM In reply to: Why you shouldn't buy an iPod by marcco68

itunes does not wipe your music off your ipod
the reason it does that because everybody has it set to "sync automatically"
when i got my ipod i set it to "sync manually"
after you change the settings, you'll be ready to go
=D

P.S
iPods are still the best
