Love it!

When my new laptop with Vista Home Premium arrived I took the time to learn as much as I could about the system. Thanks to this forum the transition was easy, I also accessed a couple of free online tutorials and used the help menus.
I have to say I really like Vista, it's been a lot of fun getting to know it well,I'm happy.

Very Satisfied

I have Vista Home Premium, and is by far the most stable OS I have had.I purchased it in Oct. 07,and have not had one BSOD.Sure it takes a little getting use to where everything is,but that is true of anything that is new.I could recommend this operating system on the "the search feature" alone.I use it constantly, and with Vista's "file indexing feature"everything on your computer is just a click away.I have 2000MB of RAM,and the system is lightning fast.

Undecided

Vista Home Premium came on my new, cheap, laptop and it works fine for what I do with a laptop...which isn't much. When we travel, we use it for email, and Google news. Locally, I use it to connect via WiFi at my local library to download large files because my home connection is dial-up. I also use it to burn DVDs because it is much faster than the DVD drive in my desktop. It looks nice but that is its only advantage that I can see.

My Dell E510 home desktop runs XP on one hard drive and we use it for all home computing...email, digital photos and video editing, MS Word documents, income tax, on-line banking, internet purchases, and grandchildren games which go back to Win95.

Vista Home Premium is on a second hard drve...just to play with. I don't dual boot because Vista's dual-boot implementation is poorly done. I just pick the drive to use in F2 Setup and the computer stays in that setup until I change drives. Vista looks very nice but in my opinion it should have been an upgrade of XP, not a replacement for XP. It will stay on the second hard drive until I can no longer extend the trial period by fiddling with the registry then that will be the end of Vista on my desktop.

I have never had problems with XP that were not caused by something I did wrong. I started with XP as a free upgrade to a Compaq laptop I bought new that came with ME installed. I have never had to reinstall XP and I plan to keep using it until the hard drive fails...and I have never had that happen either.

I hate being railroaded by Microsoft into not for primetime

by Albertv - 3/26/08 1:28 PM In reply to: Undecided by rgfitz

Into not for prime time Vista. I guess the chickens are coming home to roost for all of us behaving like lemmings and following the one and only Pi Piper our blinders allowed us to see. Next PC is going to be Linux compatible or I'm not buying the hardware. fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. In the "us" I include the so called independent PC press.

If you use Vista, how satisfied are you with it?

by jaytmoon - 2/22/08 7:07 PM In reply to: Poll: If you use Vista, how satisfied are you with it? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

i have been using Vista since April 2007 as a beta tester. Except for a few driver problems with a sound card and touchpad keyboard, its worked flawlessly. I'm running Vista Ultimate on 2 pc's now, one with a core 2 duo and one with an Athlon x2-4200. The Amd platform has only one glitch with its crossfire cards resetting to default after windows updates.
I can see why some Linux pundits would like to bash Vista as it is still being refined, but hey look a Linux. Its got a whole lot more versions and has not ever been considered "finished".

Let's NOT bash Linux

by MikeHolli - 2/23/08 2:14 AM In reply to: If you use Vista, how satisfied are you with it? by jaytmoon

Hi Jay, one slight error in your response. You cannot network Windows Vista Premium Home Edition to anything but it's self. It is missing Group Policy Editor until Microsoft corrects this, Vista isn't worth the disc it came on. I think in this forum a whole heck of a lot of users would agree with me on that point.

LINUX IS HORRID AND DESERVES BASHING!

by cruzer555 - 2/23/08 8:01 AM In reply to: Let's NOT bash Linux by MikeHolli

I will bash AS MUCH AS I WANT! I ahve tryed at least 10 types of linux and they all STINK! If you want a real OS get VISTA OR A MAC!

OK!

by MikeHolli - 2/24/08 11:46 AM In reply to: LINUX IS HORRID AND DESERVES BASHING! by cruzer555

cruzer, Linux does not stink. BUT you do have to have computer knowledge to use it successfully. Try the Unbuntu distrib, it's VERY similar to Microsoft Windows, as well as you can actually pick the interface for it. The available interfaces for it during install are Windows95, 98, 2000, and XP. On the Mac side you can use it as Mac O/S 8, O/S 9, and O/S X. There are a few other interfaces but I highly doubt that would interest you.

Mr. Anti Linux - you just admitted how bad MS gabage is

by peter4012 - 2/24/08 6:22 PM In reply to: LINUX IS HORRID AND DESERVES BASHING! by cruzer555

Even though this topix was about Vista, about which I havn't heard a single good thing except for a few fools with no networking or too much money where they can replase all their old 85/95/XP programs that don't work under Vista
But Linux basher - If you think MS is so absolutelly fabulous at$300+++ for every single piece of junk they make why did you try 'FREE Linux" AT LEAST 10 TIMES ---- please explain
additionally I strongly suspect that you were just toooooo lazy to find all the drivers you needed - Now VISTA refuses about 50% of all printers so please tell me where that is an improvement ???

You want to bash - fine - but please don't show ignorance as bad as you did

Oh just thought about it "are you a MS emplyee forced to try Linux" ??
