A very popular program(TuneUpUtilities2006)content a trojan!

In year 2006, I had downloaded this program and it seemed to be interesting, but I received a TROJAN !!
The trojan made to crash my computer whenever when I go to "My Computer" to show drivers ("A:\","C:\","D:\","E:\"), when I went go to "Windows Explorer" and when I went to search something. It made also change icons automaticly in "All programs" in "Start menu".
So, I had reinstalled WindowsXP Professional SP2 caused I can't delete this dirtiness data from TuneUp Utilities 2006 with Avast! Home Edition.
Then, about 17 mounths later, I have looked it again, but it's TuneUp Utilities 2008 in 4½ stars and I have fear to download it because I think it will do the same thing.
Please, can you reply me if TuneUp Utilities 2008 content not a trojan like this ?
If it content really not this data, I might download it.
Else, I am getting angry.

TuneUp Utilities is a legitimate and fairly well-respected application...your experience is certainly not commonplace. Here I'm left with a couple questions:
1.) What did Avast actually find, if anything? False positives are not uncommon and it's quite possible the problems you encountered were a result of a malfunction, not a trojan at all.
2.) Where did you download the application from? TuneUp Utilities itself is malware-free, but some websites inject viruses, trojans, etc. into such downloads.
3.) Are you absolutely sure the source was TuneUp Utilities and not, say, another application your or another user downloaded, a suspicious e-mail attachment, etc? Unless you keep a tight reign on your computer and run regular scans, including on all downloads, it may be hard to accurately identify the source.
What I would suggest is downloading it from a reputable source, such as download.com, and before launching the installer scan it with your security software, making sure it's clean. Not everyone is a fan of TuneUp Utilities, but I would not expect a repeat of your past experience.

You can also play it safe and buy the CD. Staples, Office Max, Office Depot have it at times. I don't understand anyone who downlowns SW applications for $$ when you can buy the CD and not worry about viruses and have a copy in case you have to restore XP.
The 2008 version is clean now !

I have downloaded this program, but it's better than before because it contains no trojan!
