Anyone Else Suffering Serious SXSW Envy?

by navsimpson - 3/8/08 2:21 PM

Am I the only one who feels awful about not being able to attend "spring break for nerds"?

Very much so. You're not alone!

Being in another country, doing schoolwork hurts especially much. :)

Would really like to see R.E.M. live at SXSW...

Parallel SXSWi

Recently moved to Austin from Montreal and, though there are times I wish I could have gotten a SXSWi badge, I also feel that there are other ways to take part in the SXSW fun.
One is to participate in BarCamp, which is a really cool way to involve yourself in an actual community. Another one is to follow some SXSWi attendees on Twitter. Yet another one is to realize that SXSWi might have jumped the shark (or lost its edge, as CNET's Daniel Terdiman said). An even more satisfying approach is to realize that SXSWi becomes more about groupthink and groupies than about vision, visionaries... and thoughtleaders.
