Data Plan for new smartphone

by tcardone05 - 3/8/08 6:54 PM

I'm on AT&T right now on a familytalk plan. My specific line has the MEdia Works bundle, which is 1500 TXT and 5MB of data. I would really like to keep that plan, as i use the internet a little, and text about 1000 a month. I'm looking at a few phones to upgrade to. They are the BlackJack, BlackBerry 8800/8310, and the AT&T 8525. Which of these phones allow me to keep that current data plan? Does AT&T offer anything similar to that for any of those phones at about $15/mo?
Thanks for any help.

I'd ask AT&T

Go to the nearest AT&T cell phone store or kiosk and ask someone. Or call up AT&T's wireless division, and ask them. You're likely to get a far better answer.

I made that switch a couple years ago from a razr to a smartphone. At that time I was able to keep my media works bundle and it worked fine on my palm treo 650. Today I have a blackjack and at&t has been blocking smartphones from operating with the medianet bundles through tracking their IME codes I believe. You'd have to purchase a smartphone data plan for web surfing which will cost you $30/month. Then you can opt to purchase which ever messaging plan you need. I would recommend you purchase the phone first and not make any changes to your plan and see if your current bundle will work on there (it more than likely won't). I called at&t when my bundle would not work on my new phone and found some one who was nice enough to use my old IME from my treo and my bundle works fine now (they're not supposed to do this of course). This is probably a temporary fix until they filter through and discover I'm using a smartphone anyway. So... long story short, you're going to have to pay $30 minimum for just internet then you have determine what your messaging needs are. And blackberry service is right around the same price.
