Why I like the PS3 more than the crappy Xbox 360 (1.5).

by Eexpert - 1/25/08 4:57 PM

I like the Sony PS3 (PlayStation 3) because it is a great video gaming system that has many useful features: multimedia capability, a large upcoming library of games with awesome graphics, and superior technology, etc. The most advanced feature of the PS3 is the latest technology called the Blu-ray which enhances the visual and optical experience to a whole new level. The PS3 is truly a technological breakthrough, not only for kids, but people of all ages can utilize this console for their entertainment.

The Sony PS3 has many great and useful features for a complete entertaining experience. One of the main features it includes is multimedia capability. The most powerful running PS3 console comes with an 80 GB hard drive and it has a backward compatibility which means that even PS2 games can be played. This is a unique feature because the only other console with this capability is the Nintendo Wii, but PS3 clearly has the advantage. The Xbox 360 which is PS3’s number one competitor and the only advantage it holds is their wide range of games. Another fact is that Xbox 360 came out a year earlier so they had more time for game development, but PS3 is showing its superiority in visual quality. The Blu-ray for instance, is the highest priced HD system and this is one of PS3’s biggest assets. One can play games, download music, and enjoy the Blu-ray visual like they have never experienced. On top of that, the PS3 has an online capability, and the best part is that it’s free, unlike the Xbox 360.

The PS3 represents quality over quantity in a sense that it does not have many games yet, but each game is made to a near perfection and the graphics speaks for itself. For example, Fight Night 3 which is available for both Xbox 360 and PS3 clearly shows PS3’s superiority in the graphics department. It is visibly sharper and the movements are more fluid. The PS3 has been in a full development stage and their upcoming games are truly phenomenal. Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear which was hailed as the number one game of 2005 and 2006 will be coming out with a new edition for the PS3.

Besides being the latest gaming console, the PS3 has the best graphics in both games and movies. The newest game which is called Call of Duty 4 is a first person shooter and the battle experience is extremely life-like and intense. It’s the closest one you could get to a real battle without actually being there. 8 out of 10 game critics from Game Pro Magazine picked PS3 as the best console to date. As I mentioned earlier, the strongest point of this console is its Blu-ray feature. Unlike the Xbox 360, the PS3 is reliable, durable, comes in one complete package with free online and Blu-ray. Owners of Xbox would have to pay an extra $200 for the HD add-on so basically, the PS3 is a bargain for its price. The cheapest PS3 is $400 and it comes with 40 GB while the cheapest Blu-ray player is $560 so it’s very obvious that PS3 is a bargain. Everything comes in one. To add to that, Xbox 360 is $300, but with a HD component, it’s over $500 so we all can see which is the better choice.

The evidence shows that PS3 is a revolutionary gaming console that takes us to a new level of gaming. The technology is top notch, the hype surrounding the upcoming games are mind boggling, and most of all, the graphics are absolutely stunning. The console boasts variety of features such as its backward compatibility, free online gaming, and its Blu-ray player, etc. All of this in one package and the pre-order for games such as Metal Gear Solid, GTA, and so on... are blowing through the roof! This console is a must-get for all the true gamers and the fans of futuristic gadgets. PS3 can do it all: Play games, go online, watch movies with a new experience through the Blu-ray, etc. The PS3 is the best console one can buy for $400 so if you thrive on intense gaming action and visuals, the PS3 is the one for you.

And why a 400$ PS3 is 400$ too much

by enter name here - 1/26/08 2:29 PM In reply to: Why I like the PS3 more than the crappy Xbox 360 (1.5). by Eexpert

You point out several points that I (a 360/Wii/PC owner) disagree with.

1. "The PS3 is truly a technological breakthrough, not only for kids, but people of all ages can utilize this console for their entertainment." WRONG. First off, it has 256 mb of ram, which is shameful in the modern market. Do they even sell a 256 mb stick of ram anymore? I can find two 1 gig sticks for less than 40$ after rebates, http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2206874&Sku=C13-2022, and seeing as I'm an individual, how cheep can Sony get it. Also, the wii is a breakthrough in easy and usability, the PS3 is a breakthrough in the area of charging too much big black boxes.

2. "As I mentioned earlier, the strongest point of this console is its Blu-ray feature." And what happens if blu-ray goes out of date, then what is it. Also, I see no need for HD disks, as renting movies is much cheaper and I don't care if they aren't in 1080p.

3. "Unlike the Xbox 360, the PS3 is reliable, durable, comes in one complete package with free online and Blu-ray" In my xbox 360 I got everything I need to play off- and on-line, sans a router. Also, I have had my console since the beginning of '06 and it has never died.

4. "All of this in one package and the pre-order for games such as Metal Gear Solid, GTA, and so on..." Metal Gear Solid you got me on, and Halo 3 sucks, but games like GTA are also coming out on the 360, with exclusive content, also Gears Of War FTW!

Then again, this post must be taken with a grain of salt, as I have never used a PS3, but was too disappointed with the PSX and PS2 to buy the PS3.

that coment wasn't reseached very well

video game consoles simply don't need as much memory as a desktop pc. and you are wrong. the 360 have 512 MB of SHARED memory while the ps3 has 256 MB video RAM and 256 MB main RAM. also not reliable doesn't necessarily mean that every one croaks. just a lot of them. Also,, gta4 has exclusive content on 360 b/c m$ decided to pay rockstar a lot of money in hopes that gta4 will be a system seller. Also Unreal tournament 3 is a ps3 exclusive at this point, and it kicks gow's a$$. by the way, the ps3 is a different using experience than previous ps series models. it just feels a lot more refined. plus, there is the frequently updated OS. Also, the ps3 has been proven to be more powerful than the 360, just the catch is that you have to code the games correctly. many games on ps3 (even some of the launch window ones looked nearly as good as 360 games that came out a year after it was built. the ps3 costs 400 dollars b/c they had to pour hundreds of millions into designing new components. Also, the ps3 recently started making money, after 1(1/2) years, something that took m$ nearly 3 on the 360.

best games

-ut3
-uncharted
-ratchet
-Motorstorm :D

just think about it in that respect

Notice: May 2, 2008 release date, thats not what I call a ps3 exclusive, but what would I know, I wasn't smart enough to buy a system with 6 processors available to game developers, 4 of which are useless if console games are coded like pc games.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_microprocessor#Architecture)

360 unreal won't be that big

by sonymaster101 - 3/5/08 9:22 PM In reply to: UT3, PS3 Exclusive, I think NOT by enter name here

Unreal will have been out for about 6 months by that point, and won't have that much of a wow factor, just like what happened with gears of war for windows.

that doesnt make much sense at all

by sonymaster101 - 4/15/08 4:53 PM In reply to: And why a 400$ PS3 is 400$ too much by enter name here

even if u just consider the blu ray player in the system:

Sony s300 vs sony ps3

ps3

-bitsream support
-dolby truehd
-DTS HD
-BD live
-BD profile 2.0

s300

-lack of support for advance audio decoders
-no BD live
-profile 1.0

plus the fact that you can use the ps3 to play high quality hd games

-and you think that that isnt worth it?

what is your sense of value in a product? how cheap it is?

As usual, flawed arguments that don't address both sides

by DogOfRaw - 2/27/08 9:38 AM In reply to: Why I like the PS3 more than the crappy Xbox 360 (1.5). by Eexpert

1. Blu-ray will be great once developers start using it. Right now, you're basically getting the same (multi-platform) games, except the one for 360 is on a DVD and the one for PS3 on a BD... only using 1/5th the space of a BD disc

2. ONLY the 80GB PS3 is backwards compatible. You've failed to mention that the 'cheaper' one (the one most people go for) lacks backwards compatibility and several other options that the more expensive 80GB has.
All Xbox 360s are backwards comptabile... assuming that MicroSoft has come out with the downloadable update/emulator for that specific game. In other words, a huge library of Xbox 1 games can be played on 360, but not ALL Xbox 1 games (but arguably, the most important ones are). In contrast, any PS2 game is playable ONLY on the 80GB PS3 (and 60GB if you can find one still). You won't be playing PS2 games on your 40GB PS3. Actually, the last sentence of your comment is deceiving. You failed to mention that the $400 40GB PS3 is NOT backwards compatible.

3. Xbox was doing multimedia from day one. 360 is a full Windows Media Center extender... meaning you can stream audio, video and pictures to your 360 from your PC. My own personal PC has also a DVR function. So I record TV w/ my PC, then stream it to my TV to watch later through the 360. Wonderful. Sony is doing something similar, and has some interesting remote/wi-fi capabilities w/ the PSP... but as of right now, none of those things are available.

4. PS3's cost more because it's "all in one" and has built-in BD. Xbox comes in pieces and you pick and choose what you need. I don't need wi-fi for my 360, I use direct ethernet since my modem is right there by my entertainment center. NOT having a wi-fi adapter saved me money because that's an additional cost that's not sunk-in to the 360's pricetag.

5. 360 has had it's share of hardware problems, which is a very bad thing. However, Microsoft has been quick to fix any problems. ONce they realzied they had a widespread problem, they did the right thing. A frustration that most PS3 and Wii players don't go through, but for the games I enjoy playing, it's still worth it to me. And while the Xbox had it's share of hardware issues... at least it does not have software and update issues. Read stories of PS3's needed BD firmware updates, not being able to play some BD discs. Also, most professional game reviews tend to point out that PS3s frame rates tend to be slower in multi-platform games, when compared to 360. So to be 100% fair: BOTH consoles have quality issues.

6. "The PS3 represents quality over quantity in a sense that it does not have many games yet, but each game is made to a near perfection and the graphics speaks for itself"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA.... This is nothing but a defensive opinion to rationalize why the PS3 has less games right now. It would have been better to just say Xbox had a year head-start. Pretty much 3rd party support is the same for both systems. Most critical reviews aren't that high for PS3... the games expected to do great got mediocre scores (such as Drake's Fortune and Heavenly Sword) and the tilt controller has been regarded as useless.

7. Call of Duty 4 is available for 360. Why would you use a cross-platform game to argue the merits of one system? And as I stated, most game critics (such as EGM, gamespot.com, etc.) tend to pick the 360 editions over PS3 due to frame rate and graphical issues.

8. At one point in time, yes, the HD-DVD player add-on was $200. Which meant that the cheapest Xbox + HD-DVD = approx $500. Comparable to a PS3. However... there's a great majority of people who actually don't give 2 craps about HD, so having the HD-DVD be a seperate add-on meant I could get an Xbox for under $300...

9. The only real advantage you've pointed out is PS3's BD player. It's the only thing you keep going back to, mostly because all the other arguments are spun on Sony slant. But people are seeing this backwards. People are saying "Oh, and we get a BD player too. What a deal!". Um... no. If you're a Sony fan and love PS games, then you're basically forced to spend money on a BD player, whether you want one or not. If Sony had an option for a Blu-ray-less PS3 for only $300, how many do you think they would have sold?
For someone who wants a blu-ray player... and hey, this thing plays games too!!-- then a PS3 is a great bargain.
For someone who wants to play games, the PS3 is the most expensive option.

10. PS3's online system pales in comparison to Xbox Live. It's free... and you get what you pay for. Xbox Live does cost money... it's $50 for ONE YEAR. That's $4.16 a month for a system that is stable and extremely user-friendly. PC-gamers pay 3-times that amount a month to play ONE GAME (such as World of Warcraft) online. With Live, you also have access to tons of downloabable content, including game demos, Arcade games, add-ons, maps and a huge catalog of streaming/downloable HD-video rentals. Movies, TV shows, and even music videos.

It's ok if someone likes the PS3 more, I understand and don't fault you for it. But there's no reason to tell half-truths and slant things. You aren't helping anyone, you're misleading them into believing the wrong things. People will decide which system is the best for them. (And if they are the kind of people that can't figure it out, then they need to consider a wii instead).

The PS3 is picking up steam this year... but only because they are finally starting to come out with better games and because of the 40GB price. Blu-ray will help as well, but it seems like this is the only saving grace Sony can hang onto. Everything else is pretty average when compared to all systems. And with all that said... I will probably find myself w/ a PS3 later on down the road. But for now, the Xbox 360, even with all it's faults, is my console of choice.

Who cares?

by Jimmy Greystone - 2/27/08 10:25 AM In reply to: Why I like the PS3 more than the crappy Xbox 360 (1.5). by Eexpert

Who cares? I mean really, who cares what you think, or what I think, or what that guy over there thinks? You like the PS3: Fine. Good for you, no one but you, and maybe your friends, really cares. Other people really like their 360s, and I said the same thing to them. Good for you, I, and pretty much everyone else, don't care.

Why can't people just be happy with what they have? Why this need to try and pick a fight like this? I mean really, how happy with something can you possibly be if you feel the need to constantly compare it to everything else and prove to yourself that it's the best choice for you? Seems game consoles are a bit like religions, in that some people just aren't mature enough to handle them responsibly. They let petty jealousy and repressed anxiety about feelings of inadequacy ruin it for everyone else.

Just be content to you enjoy your PS3, and let others be content in enjoying whatever different game console choice they may have made. If the 360 isn't for you, then don't buy one, how hard is that? When in a public forum like this, let's at least try to behave like we're not 12, and avoid having any "I know you are, but what am I?" style arguments.

And these comments are addressed to everyone generally, not any one person. So, feel free to mix and match all console references with PS3, Xbox 360, and even Wii, to fit your particular preferences.

Xbox 360 vs. PlayStation 3 Reliability Measures

by 8IronBob - 3/23/08 6:16 AM In reply to: I really have no part in this conversation by Shwa4a

Well, one thing I like better about the PS3 is that it's a better-built console as well, since the hardware was designed more for reliability, and like a tank. Microsoft, well, they have failure rates as high as they do for a reason. Every time I turn on my X360, I usually just pray that it won't "Red Ring" on me. Not the case with the PS3.

I find the $400 version of the PS3 to be most dependable, even tho it's not backwards compatible like the other three versions are. Just upgraded the hard drive on it, and am using my PS3 for all forms of entertainment, not just gaming. Makes a nice Blu-ray player, probably the best out there for movies, media storage like recorded TV and MP3 radio recordings from the PC store on there nicely, and it's basically an "iPod for the Living Room" as I like to explain it. Sony did a nice job. Wish that Microsoft would've rethought their design strategy, and made their console more dependable for all this stuff.

Are you an Idiot.

Hey man I got 10 reasons why the PS3 sucks and why Xbox 360 is better.
10). Poor design. Spiderman font and a bbq grill.
9). Poor variety of games. Only good ones are MGS4 and Heavenly Sword. Rest just sucks
8). $600 price tag and no backwards compatibility.
7). Crap-Tastic Hardware. Overheat and catches fire (seriously happened to me)
6). No rumble and six axis sucks
5). Revolutionary my A**
4). Small online community
3). Complicated
2). SLOW Update/Install time. (Watch games radar Devil May Cry 4 install vid)
1). RIDGE RACER!!!

Xbox 360 tops PS3. WHy?
10). 4 player split screen
9). Great arcade games
8). Large Library
7). Xbox 360 has large amounts of games that are anticipated.
6). Box sets comes with head set
5). Cheaper
4). Free downloadable content
3). Awsome games
2), Great online community
1). HALO 3 and CALL OF DUTY 4.
