by kawasakikid911 - 3/2/08 1:06 PM

I am 14 and i am getting a laptop. I want a pretty fast, but yet cheap one. By cheap i mean like not over 750$. I'll mostly use it for writing essays in school, music, videos, and internet. I also need a router but i dont want one that will give me slow internet. Can anyone tell me any?

You can get an Acer for around 500

that will do anything you like. A 802.11 G router will cost you around 50.00. You won't need a wireless since most likely any laptop you get in that proce range will most likely have a 802.11 G wireless card. I've had experience with Trendnet, Linksys and Dlink. They are all pretty much the same.

you can try Dell. there home and office section have have inspirons starting at 499. or you can check out there business class vostro(start at 399) and lattitutde (Start at 499)

You can go with HP/compaq and see there C700T series . also maybe you might like the asus Eee pc (it has low storage ,4gb-16gb, so if you go this route i would buy a sd or mmc for more storage

if you don't want to purchase online just check your local Best Buy or Circuit City and see what they have available

I recommend you look at Acer, IBM, Toshiba and Dell models and go from there on price and features you want. As for www speed all depends on your link-up, but I see no real problem overall unless dial-up is your only option. For the tasks you mention just about any new laptop offering can do the job, but the cos. I mentioned tend to be more stable.

The basic system should have:
Vista, 2gb ram, 128mb(up to256) video, 160gb HD, wi-fi, duo-core and DVD/CD drive and 15in. LCD. If they offer XP OS and you want it, get it now it may not be offered again.

tada -----Willy :)
