I may be jumping the gun a little here but here's the thing...
From my calculations the live stream of BOL on 'Yahoo Live' takes place at 1800 in the UK (1000 Pacific). This sucks as I don't usually return home from work until 1830 at the earliest.
Looking for solutions (and I get that this is a beta and a work in progress and all that).
Is there a way to download past broadcasts?
or
Is there a way to automate the following procedure (Not including point 1)? :
1. I have created a webpage with the three different broadcasts on.
2. At 1800 have my browser open to that page.
3. Have 'snapz pro' capture the section of the screen containing only the three video feeds along with the audio stream from only Jason's.
4. Have that recording saved in some sensible format.
5. Have 'Visual Hub' pick up that recording and transcode it using the 'iTunes - optimise for iPod Touch - Use h.264 encoding - send to iTunes' settings.
6. Have that transcoded file picked up by the ridiculous system of 'Smart Playlists' I have for aggregating only the most recent episode of each of my favourite podcasts into one playlist.
7. Sync onto my iPod for use watching on the way to work the following day.
I realise that some of those steps are already automated it's the bridges between the apps and the timing aspect I'm unsure of...

BuzzCrew... BOL the Video Podcast? One camera, No editing, Two RSS feeds (video/audio)... Just saying.
Any help with this much appreciated, I got hooked on watching BOL during CES2008... It made blocking the monotony of my commute (3hours each morning and evening, two buses and a train) a little easier and would also help with the justification of my purchase of an iPod touch a little easier (I do feel kinda guilty leaving it in my pocket whilst catching up on BOL, Gadgettes, Real Deal, Car Tech, Digital Home, The 404 etc etc...
Many thanks in advance : Andy
I believe Ustream.tv offers a way for TMJ to record their streams. They are trying ustream tomorrow
It would be nice if we could find a simple solution to converting it into a podcast format without adding to the hardware load at CNET
Ustream, which they are going to try out, records past broadcasts. So after they are done you will be able to watch a recorded version, and then the finalized podcast version. But as far as I know there aren't recorded versions on yahoo live.
Thanks people for the heads up re. ustream.tv...
Done some scouting around and it turns out that T (http://ustream.tv/acedtect) M (http://ustream.tv/mollywood) and J (http://ustream.tv/raygun01) already have their profile pages set up and Tom already has a pre-record of a Real Deal episode recorded on 22/05/07 (Real Deal 59 - The Lifecasting episode, appropriately enough).
Encouragingly there also appears to be an RSS link on Tom's profile page but as yet I can't seem to get it to work in iTunes....
So close!
Things are looking hopefull though...
Cheers : Andy
Rafe has his stream of that same Real Deal up on his page at http://ustream.tv/rafe ... Still having bother working out how to download/homebrew a podcast out of this though... I guess watching in the evening as a time-shift will have to do for now...
Any further help would be most jolly.
Cheers again peeps : Andy
It seems that you can set up Ustream to send recorded streams to Blip.tv
It generates a podcast feed.
but... the problem is that it is 3 seperate videos. so it would either be 3 different podcasts or 3 different video podcasts each day.
I don't know if there is an automatic video splicing program to produce one podcast video.
But using this method, you would have a single feed:
Within Ustream, there is an option to record live streams.
There is another option to automatically upload the recordings to Blip.tv.
All that this requires is the creation of a Blip.tv account and entering said account information into Ustream.
Blip.tv hosts the files for free and converts them into MPEG-4 files, available in a podcast feed form.
You can use http://www.feedroll.com/feedcombiner/ to access all three of the feeds at once, in the form of one podcast feed.
Only been able to read up on this briefly but it seems like this is the way to go. From the looks of it the whole ustream to blip to iTunes compatible RSS can be automated ie as soon as TMJ stream/record a show the background processing can be done automatically.
Couple of sticking points though.
1. I think to take advantage of the automation of both the ustream transcoding and the blip transfer/RSS creation the originating user must be a 'pro' user of blip.
2. The initial setup must be carried out by the originators of the broadcast ie T, M or J...
Was hoping to be able to get this sorted without handing more work to the BuzzCrew... However if T, M or J are around what is your opinion on all the above?
Looking really good so far, thanks again for the suggestions... Must sleep now looking forward to picking this up again tomorrow... Night all!
Andy
They would only have to set this up once for it to work.
I've sent an e-mail to buzz@cne.com, under the direction of Molly, so hopefully they'll read it, and find all the other information as well.
Yeah what we thought up is pretty automatic, once you set it up and the thing is recorded it runs through the process of going through blip and combining the feeds.
