question for the mac buzzards

by dfwgreg - 2/27/08 12:01 PM

I have a question for the mac community. I just bought a macbook (and the next day, new versions of the macbook came out, but that's not my question) and when I disconnect the headphones, there's a five second delay before the speakers kick in. Is this normal or should I return it for a new MB?

Get the new macbook

The sound delay isn't unusual in my experience, but unless the restocking fee is too expensive you may just sit and regret your purchase for months...

No restocking fee

There's no restocking fee if you take it back right away.
They should replace it with the new one no questions asked.

We don't have an Apple store in Baton Rouge. Have to see if Best Buy has the new models.

Went to Best Buy and they have the new macbook models (and they have macbook models from $999) and I was able to exchange my model for a the new one, no questions and no restocking fee.

I have one more question. This is my first mac and this weekend I really want to get to know my macbook. Any suggestions for the best book to read about how to fully use my MacBook? First item that comes to mind is the dummies book, but I'll take other suggestions as well.

The lesson I learned was the book slowed me down. If you do get stuck, we have a fine mod in our Mac OS forum.

What do you want to know?

by Astinsan - 2/28/08 11:06 AM In reply to: one more item by dfwgreg

The thing is do you want to know the Operating system or just the laptop it self? The question was kind of vague...

I usually do the inside out type of book reading Sams or Sybex, Que .. Hayden... etc. These are more like tech manuals 700-2000 page monsters.

If you really want to learn how to enjoy the computer for what it is... Explore it. Check every thing out.

You Won't know all the special key combinations so the book that is essential for practically anything (even games like WOW) O'Reilly Desktop Reference books. they are about 30-40 pages and cost around 8$ USD. You can pick them up on Half for almost nothing if you don't mind used.

These books have all the information needed to get you started and easy to thumb through if you forget something.

Hope that helps
Enjoy your new mac

A couple of OS X Tips sites

From Apple: http://www.apple.com/pro/tips/

This looks helpful, too, given that it's geared toward the first-time Mac user:
