Windows Vista is slow booting up

by cd50378 - 2/11/08 11:11 AM

I have a brand new Compaq laptop with Vista & it is slow booting up. I read on the forum that you can disable "server" thru msconfig & that speeds it up but does disabling server cause any problems? What does the program "server" do and do I need it running? I am used to my 4 year old XP desktop, which boots up so much quicker. I don't think I like Vista. Thanks.

Just a thought...

If you use ZoneAlarm firewall for Vista, I found it really clogged my boot and shutdown to a crawl. Remedy was to use another two way firewall to replace Vista's firewall.

Maybe this will not help if you are not using ZoneAlarm but has been my experience.

Try this

On the bios screen, load your Vista installation disk. Once it loads a language window will appear, next, then a scan runs, next, then on this screen in the lower left corner, click, repair options, next, choose start up repair, click enter. Your done.

If you do this by loading the OS installation disk within the OS after log on, this option is not available, the installation disk must be installed at the BIOS screen.

No installation disk? Then get one from your computer manufacturer. These can usually be acquired for the cost of shipping and handling.

it could be an inexpensive notebook

i've worked on several compaq notebooks with vista. most are no more than a month or two old. if you haven't put anything on it yet, reinstall vista. but i think it's the inexpensive nootbooks that are the problem and not vista.
