My first gen ibook with Mac OS 9.2.2 keeps crashing for no reason! As soon as I open something or even click, chances are it will freeze for a bit then be okay or crash completely! Does this mean complete reinstall of Mac OS 9, or something else?
Even those macbooks needed to be cleaned out once a year. I like to hit the vents and heatsinks with a blast of air. How long since that procedure?
just wait until you need your macbook serviced, you'll wish you never spent the ungodly amount of money on it for the over hyped, over priced, piece of worthless plastic. IF, they do decide to service it, you can spend up to 2 months without it. i think i was one of the few to get my money back. i learned my lesson, but i do get a good laugh by the people who have fallen for the advertising. they'll really get mad when all the next generation infections destroy their unprotected machines. i can't wait for all the law suits these people will try to file. all because they fell for excellent advertising. here's an idea, get a cheap dell with vista basic preinstalled. i bet it'll outlast anything apples come out with in the last 18 months.
The original poster does not have a MacBook, he has a first generation iBook.
That means it has been running since 1999 and I'm guessing this is about the first problem he has had with it.
You obviously had a bad experience with your Macbook, care to share?
By the way, Apple have never claimed that their OS is invulnerable. The do claim that there are currently no virus's in the wild that attack OS X.

22 posts and only one, this one, about problems with a Macbook.
What sort of problems did you have with your Macbook?
When did you buy it?
Who would not service it?
Why?
Tell me more about the "next generation infections", how do they work?
I would like a Apple Mac but have more knowledge than me. What is wrong with them?

is the best way to go with this problem.
It's a fairly easy procedure.
Let us know how you get on.
Good luck

I found my restore disks in a dusty box.
I had similar problems with my older Imac last fall. I found out it was the cmos battery. Replaced it and reinstalled the OS which cured everything. I guess 8 years on the battery was enough.

this is an iBook and not an iMac.
The first generation iBook did not have a "CMOS" battery.
Everything was powered by the main battery.
