TrueCrypt Key File question

by nxcmp - 2/22/08 3:24 PM

I just wanted your opinions on this. My USB attached hard disk has 2 partitions. 1 unencrypted (small & TrueCrypt mounting software) and the other one is (large partition, encrypted). What I was wondering is where would be the best place or way to store the "Key File" thats required for decrypting the partition on my USB HDD? Reason I'm asking is because I take this device around with me. It contains personal files, my licensed software, program keys, etc. Now I realize not to store the key file on the device itself. I'm using windows with TrueCrypt 5.0a (have Linux version if needed) for this processes. Oh and just so you know the USB HDD is a laptop drive so it's more portable. Thanks for any suggestions. =)

Thanks =) for the link, I'll consider it. Any more suggestion? For the Key File? I would like to try and avoid completely re-encrypting all of my data to a container file.

Just store the key file in a pendrive/USB memory stick

Look at their tutorial at http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/keyfiles.php
Scroll down the page on how to store/add path of your keyfile to a pendrive or USB memory stick that you will carry always if you want access to your encrypted volume or USB HDD.
