System Restore Help

by Artemis Faust - 2/16/08 11:32 PM

I recently restored the OS on my Compaq laptop. I run XP SP2 and have done this before, but now I can't find any of my old files. I know the programs should be wiped, and they are but none of the old movie or word files are still there. However, I am absolutely positive that I just did the OS recovery, not reformatting the hard drive because my C drive still reads that there is about 15 gigs worth of lost space, not counting the other 15 or so that XP uses up. I really would like to know how to find all of these missing files. Thanks.

You DID backup your files before doing such a Recovery?

Hope this helps.

different profile maybe?

Sounds like possibly two different profiles. Check all of the folders under c:\documents and settings

if you're logging in with a different account than you used before the OS repair, it will have a completely different My Documents area.
