First off, I was hoping that HDDVD would win or at least stall the format wars, but ever since the pre-CES annoucement, it's been like watching a nearly dead horse getting kicked, shot, knifed, and smacked around these past few weeks.
1. Best Buy gives a swift kick to the stomach.
2. Netflix takes out a gun and shoots at the chest.
3. Walmart taking out a knife and stabbing the heart!
I'm saddened to see this, but that's mostly b/c I still haven't forgiven Sony for the whole rootkit debacle and my annoyance of their memory sticks. Oh, HDDVD, we hardly knew thee!
Blu Ray is technologically the best format. And that's all that really matters to me, best format is winning. ![]()
Sony has always been known of going against the grian for open and easy formats.
combined with the Rootkit, I wont EVER support blueray even if its a better system.
I can't trust them.
Is Blu Ray any less open than HD-DVD? I don't think so.
I don't like some of Sony's previous tactics either but the Blu-ray is not the same thing as Sony the company. Blu-ray is a format adopted by multiple companies. Like HD-DVD, and DVD and VHS etc before them, the Blu-ray is guided by a board of directors. There are 18 consumer electronics companies including Samsung, Sharp, LG, Pioneer, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, etc that sit on this board.
If Sony were the only one driving this train, Blu-ray would have been nothing more than another memory stick or mini disc. Sony learned it lesson and realized the importance of building a coalition.
was created by Sony and Toshiba merging their formats to avoid consumer confusion and market fragmentation. Those that claim we need multiple HD formats to increase competition just need to look at the history of DVD to see how a single format creates a highly competitive market.
Everyone can down Sony all they want but they made the best move and thats putting a Blue Ray player in the Ps3,Look they helped adopt DVD with the addition on a DVD drive in the PS2 8 years ago so my hats off to them and there product,PS3,XBR Bravia TV's,and ES line or receivers are none other than world class.Great job Sony.Purchased my first Sony Walkman in 1983,and still and it and works.
