What cell phone provider /carrier should i choose?
Situation:
i am planning on purchasing a cell phone, since it is a necessity in a North American lifestyle. i heard that the cell phone you buy depends on the cell phone provider and plan you purchase. since it is my first time buying a cell phone, i have no experience with cell phone providers such as Rogers, AT&T, Verizon etc. therefore, i really need help in choosing one.
What I need:
i would like to have service almost everywhere i go, including basements, elevators, buildings etc. i would like free incoming, a decent amount of incoming/outgoing minutes, bluetooth, free weekends, and free after 6pm. according to these needs, what is the best cell phone provider and approximately how much will it cost? if there are any other needs i should include with my plan, please feel free to suggest. as i said before, i have no experience with cell phones and i really need your help. thanks for your time and effort.

hi mate
1st of tell us whether you want <a href="http://www.mobilephoneshopuk.net/contract_mobile_phones.html">contract mobile phone</a> or pay as you go phones
im not really sure but im probably gonna stick with a contract. if you have any reasons why i shouldnt get a contract, please say so.
I have to say that Cingular/ATT has got to be the worst in the business. I've had Verizon and ATT and wish i stuck with Verizon. On any typical day, ATT drops about 80% of every phonce call I'm on. I am not, let me repeat, I am not exagerating when i say 80%. My friends and family won't even call me on the phone because I always end up hanging up on them. It's not the phone either as I have bought two phones through them trying to solve the problem. Thus the reason I have stopped using my cell phone pretty much all together.
thx a lot for your input. from your comment, i can now cut out ATT from the choices i have. now im left with rogers, fido and telus as the major cell phone companies i may go with.
and have had no problem what so ever with their service anywhere I have gone. Verizon in my area tends to drop more calls than att does. I would talk to people around your area and see what service they have and what type of problem they have had with their service.
I have had Verizon, Sprint and now I have ATT. I believe the only company that has free incoming is sprint, but I feel that Sprint has the worst service of all major cell phone carriers. I liked Verizon the best out of all the carriers because I got cell phone coverage everywhere I went. I live in Florida but I would travel often to Buffalo New York and still had great service. There are going to be pro's and con's with every company and you are always going to hear good and bad things about every company. The only reason I went with ATT from Verizon is for the Iphone, but I think that Verizon would be the best. I would do like the person before me said and see what the most popular carrier is in your area because you named some cell phone carriers I have never heard of so they might be better than the major cell phone carriers for other metropolitan areas.
Are you looking for a high tech phone or just a phone that makes phone calls and you dont care about anything else?
I don't want a phone that looks like its from the 90s lol. I dont necessarily need a phone that plays mp3 since i have an ipod. However, I would like a phone that is long lasting, looks flashy and sleek, has all the basic features, and can have quality conversations on. thx for ur help.
Well I think it all depends on how much your looking to spend, you could sell your ipod and get an Iphone so you dont have to carry both around. In that case you would go with ATT, but if you dont want an Iphone just get a good phone from Verizon. I would recommend not getting a free phone but just going to a Verizon store and seeing which one fits you best. In other words, if you want the Iphone go with ATT, if you dont want an Iphone go with Verizon Wireless and you wont be disapointed.
I doubt my ipod would sell for any price thats worth it. So an iphone is out of the question. Therefore I'm left with verizon. However, I live in Toronto, and it seems most cell phone users have Rogers service. Have you ever heard of it?
Although Rogers is very agressive in their selling the company does not have a good reputation. I didn't believe it until they bought out sprint my excellent long distance carrier and then kept increasing the rates finally in insting that I switch to their "home" service which is cable telephone - their custome service people are friendly once you reach them - always expect a 1 or 2 hour wait before you get a live person and although they are friendly they most often cannot help you with any request you may have. Sorry but after years I now have to go with the poor reputation I have often heard about but didn't believe before.
Hello,
Every cell phone provider/ carrier, as well as all manufacturers have pros and cons. You end up with many different opinions on one carrier based on customers personal experiences. The key when shopping for service is to:
- Determine everything you need out of your phone.
i.e. Do you want a phone or a complete hand-held multimedia system. Try to avoid buying the latest, expensive, high tech gadget if it has a ton of features you will never use.
- Review and select the plan best suited for your needs.
For example, a person who utilizes thier phone to text more often than call would benefit from a plan which offers free text messaging.
One way to select the right carrier/ phone for you is to decide what you want and research various sources to find it.
Another way to to find the right cell phone is to have a telecommunications solutions expert assist you. One such place providing this type of one on one service is www.tantonandtanton.com.
Best of luck in selecting the right phone and plan for you ![]()
Sincerely,
Zachary
