So a few months ago, OLPC "Give one, Get one" purchasers were able to get a year of free T-mobile wifi. An attractive offer considering Starbucks that are "stand alone", in bookstores, or in malls have T-mobile...
Now, Starbucks is switching from T-mobile to AT&T. No more free wi-fi at Starbucks for those generous OLPC give/get folks.
Starbucks doesn't hate kids in developing countries do they? I guess the generous OLPC folks will have to hoof it over to Borders Book & Music and other places that have T-Mobile wi-fi. I wonder what Barnes & Noble would have to say about that...
Best,
Shalin
Whom else is going to harvest the coffee beans in producing nations?
From this article:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2008/02/11/financial/f062359S35.DTL
I got this information:
[[Current T-Mobile HotSpot customers — who pay $6 per hour-long session, $9.99 for a day pass or up to $39.99 a month for unlimited access — will get Wi-Fi access at no extra charge under a roaming agreement between AT&T and T-Mobile. T-Mobile USA, based in Bellevue, Wash., said the roaming agreement would last at least five years.]]
OLPC donors will still be able to use their T-Mobile accounts at Starbucks for the rest of the year.
I'm not one of the give/get folks, but I'm glad they still get that benefit...
