I have AVG 7.5 installed on both of my computers. For the last month or so, whenever it asks me to update the virus definitions, an error occurs when it tries to upload them. Today, on one of my PC's it indicated that my virus definitions were out of date. When I tried to update them, it said I had the latest definitions. However, my AVG control center continues to show that the definitions need to be updated.
When I went to the Grisoft site, I could not see a free edition of AVG so has Grisoft discontinued AVG 7.5? If yes, can anyone recommend any other free anti-virus programs? Thanks.
You can download it from here:

AntiVir by Avira (which is what I use) or Avast which is also a very good choice.
Thanks for the replies. I uninstalled and re-installed the free version of AVG on both of my computers but I still have the same problem in that whenever I try to update my virus definitions, an error message comes up. I am assuming that Grisoft is not supporting their free version anymore so I think I will try Avast.
it is caused by your firewall?

One other pssibility is to uninstall the whole Grisoft AVG Antivirus, search for Grisoft and delete and in the registry thru Run:type in regedit and click OK. At The top is Edit and in the drop down is Find: Grisoft. If you have both in there [AV & AS], when you find the AV, there may be a list of five but the top one is the one you delete.
F3 and it will keep searching until you see finished searching. That F3 you have to do a few times but it will clean out the entire computer for a fresh install.

Thanks for correcting my update issue. I had the same problem.
had icons that kept disappearing on the toolbar, some items would not work at all and even my desktop IE7 disappeared!!
Had Comodo BOClean and it also disappeared, along four other icons. I have nine and there will be no hiding them now.
I have Ad-Aware 2007 [aaw2007.exe] and I can run a short scan and setup a restore point. Better than the one in WinXP for it doesn't leave renamed files/folders.
Hmmm! Just noticed the phishing filter is offline. Only one item will be left open to take, had downloaded from here and the one not installed is from belarc.com. Only ours to correct this. Darrell
That updating thing was a miniature nightmare ...lol
P.S. Have u tried "ccleaner" ? i just downloaded it & luv it already..its so much fun! { http://www.ccleaner.com/ }

Hi, I recently had this error which seems now to be resolved. Managed to update definitions today and all is well in my AVG world once more.
