Good Phone for AT&T
by msmith379 - 2/10/08 6:40 PMI am looking at getting a new phone for my AT&T account. Right now I am not in a huge hurry but just checking things out. What I am mainly looking for is a good solid phone that is tough because I am rough on phones for some reason and also that has a good volume when talking with someone. I'm not terribly hard of hearing but like to be able to hear the person well. The phone I have right now is the LG 300 and it has worked very well for me. Before that I had the basic Motorola Flip phone and will never buy another motorola phone. My wife right now has the Sony Ericsson Z525a and she really doesn't like it.
I really don't do anything special on my cell phone besides talk and I text a lot. So if I have any critera for a phone is that it is easy to text with.
I went to AT&T today after researching phones to look at a few and wasn't terribly impressed. The best thing is they have several nice phones and PDAs under $100. I would say right now I am leaning on 5 different options in no particular order.
1. Keep my current phone until a new batch of phones come out.
2. LG Shine - but the keypad scares me. (I have fat fingers)
3. Pantech Duo - really like this phone but CNET and other reviews really hate this phone, becuase of its fragile nature. If I hadn't read the reviews I would have this phone. It is exactly what I am looking for.
4. Samsung Blackjack II - like the phone but do I really need a PDA since I won't activate the true options for it like email.
5. Blackberry Curve - All four of the phones are $100 right now, is the Curve so good you can't pass up that price. But again I won't add the media aspect of it on unless I get my work to pay for it, but I probably don't want to be that accessible.
One more thing I like keeping phones in my pocket and belt clips don't work for me well. So I am afraid of scractching screens in my pocket or making phone calls when I don't want. If nothing else I just will keep my keys out of the same pocket.
Sorry for the novel if you have any suggestions of what I have looked at or any phones that are reasonable in price ($150 or cheaper with two year) I would really appreciate it.

by Marsha524 - 2/10/08 7:16 PM In reply to: Good Phone for AT&T by msmith379The Shine may be a little bit on the flat side, and I can see why you would say that it might become a problem with your fingers, but rest assured. The keys are spacious enough to text and IM with. Plus, it's stylish.
Pantech Duo might not be the top phone from reviewers and for specific reasons, but don't let a review select your phone for you. Try it out for yourself and see how you like it. You're going to be the one using the phone, so listening to someone else's opinion about it doesn't answer everything. Base a product on your taste and your needs.
Samsung Blackjack IS a smartphone or as some people like to call it a Blackberry-wannabe...and even though you don't activate the full blown email/data package it still has the basic functions like calendar, calc, notes, alarms, and pretty much all the standard functions. It's a nifty little thing, so if you want to travel like, this is the phone to get.
Now, do not get the Blackberry OR the Blackjack or any type of commercial smartphones that are really big into the email on the go deal if you don't want to activate it in the first place. That'll be a big waste of money, and you'll be better off with a simple phone. Motorola has a lot of useful phones for dirt cheap, so you should check out their website. Also, if you do want to put your keys and cell in the same pocket you can just by a plastic cover for the screens, or a protective case for it. There's a lot of designs that are light and clings to the phone so you don't feel weight down by the extra ounces.
