Pressing F9 freezes my computer
by ericchan - 2/9/08 10:24 PMWhenever I press F9 multiple times, my computer freezes/locks up for a bit. It's only F9, and it stops locking up after a few seconds. How can I fix this?

Well, that was the obvious answer.
Now, can you tell us a bit more?
Why are you pressing F9, and why multiple times?
What application are you using when you press F9?
What are the specifications of your computer? (See the note in red above each post window).

i use f9 as a hotkey mainly in some video games which is where i first noticed it, but when i tried outside of the game, it continues to happen.
it only started about a week ago, and i have had my system for half a year now.
it's a dell inspiron 1720 with windows XP
everything else is working fine
2.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo
2 GB of ram
nVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

by Edward ODaniel - 2/11/08 3:23 PM In reply to: I'm using a laptop by ericchanand the laptop doesn't have a PS/2 mouse/keyboard port then you could check that F9 key by booting a Linux Live CD (or any other bootable CD or floppy (if that laptop has a CD or floppy drive) and seeing what happens when you press the F9 key repeatedly.
If it is bad pop the key off to remove temptation or get the keyboard repaired or replaced.
