Networking XP and Vista (file sharing)

by themagain - 2/9/08 8:40 AM

I have an XP laptop and a Vista desktop (which is the one with the router), and I have multiple folders shared on each machine. The XP laptop will see everything that I share from the Vista machine, but the Vista machine will only see the files on the XP laptop if I put them in the "Public" folder, which is automatically accessible to every machine on the Network. Basically my problem is the Vista machine knows there is another computer on the network, (because of the "Public" folder and I share its printer with the laptop), but the Vista machine will not recognize the specific XP machine being on the network. It is like we our router is just acting as a public access router.. By the way our router is a D-Link Di-524.
