Act which version?

by ndhelp001 - 2/5/08 8:49 AM

I am looking for a decent contact management software, that would be useful in job hunting, relationship management, etc. I do not think that I need a full blown product that a sales team would need per se, but do need something better than the typical contact manager in hotmail for instance. I have been looking at some of the versions of Sage Software's Act, and have minimal familiarity through my old job financial services.

Goldmine gets a lot of thumbs up, but versions of Act on Ebay and other outlets are more in my price range. Act 2005 seems to get some good reviews, but is harder to find. The 2006 version seems to be readily available and at good prices, but does not get such good reviews.

My needs are not as intensive as a front line salesperson, but I do want a useful tool for keeping track of information, and relationship management. I would like to be able (if possible) to do things like make conversational notes, search for common interests or organize in groups, track mailings/phone calls/etc. Appreciate any help.

Thank you.

I've used every version of Act! since the first DOS version. Act! was completely rewritten starting with Act! 2005, making this version very buggy and it should not have been released in my opinion. Act! 2008 is far better, but I'm looking for a hosted replacement for Act!

Act! Class Action Suit

Update: I just discovered I'm a potential member of a class action suit against Sage for Act! 2005.

ACT V10

I have used V6 and now V10 with less than complete satisfaction.
Lots of bugs.
Difficult to design templates, cannot import templates. Cumbersome recall of saved work. Look elsewhere for better if it exists.

ACT 2008 is the only way to go.

Forget any earlier versions of ACT. I had to stay with Act version 5/2000 all the way up to last year. I tried earlier versions like 2005/2006/2007 and they were all HORRIBLE! 2008 finally seems to have the stability, reliability and most of the features I need. Not perfect, but getting there. It's still a bit of a resource hog. So if your are a multi-tasker like me, you may want a similar system with a 2ghz core 2 duo chip and 2 GB of RAM. That seems to be enough to keep problems at bay.
