Digital Camera Recommendations

by rsbuckland - 1/20/08 1:31 PM

Hi,

I am going to be traveling quite a bit this year and want to get a digital camera that will suit my needs. I am going to be traveling throughout the U.K. in Scotland and Wales where there are breathtaking landscapes, as well as to the Cayman Islands, and to New York and D.C. I want a camera that has the capability of taking great pictures with lots of storage along with other capabilities that will match the needs of the places I go. Any recommendations are welcome, thanks!!!

What are your needs?

Ultracompact, compact, SLR-like, DSLR?

How much do you want to spend?

How do you feel about AA batteries?

What percentage of the time will you be shooting in low-light situations?

Any cameras (or brand) you're currently interested in?

Any cameras (or brand) you definitely don't want?

Last year I bought my girlfriend a Sony W90. (or it was the Sony W200). Either way, the camera was very compact and took amazing pictures. I took the camera with me to Seattle for a vacation, and i never missed a "moment". Some of them even looked like I took them with my DSLR camera.

Anyways it's pretty cheap right now (around $200 and $300 for the W200)and it's a great camera. Especially with it's "Super Steady Shot". Many companies use big name features like this to push camera sales, but this feature is legitimate.

If you want, I can send you some sample pictures to let you judge the image quality.

Hope this helps
