Hi everyone,
I recently downgraded my HP PAVILION DV6500 from vista to xp because I was having complications with connecting a dial up plus other downloading other softwares. Now that my system is with xp, I have lost sound and some other drivers. I have tried downloading several drivers but none seem to work. Right now I have a laptop without sound or even VGA.I need help. Please,if anyone can send me a software to get back my sound and other drivers I will be most grateful. I like my laptop and don't want to lose it.

You may need to install the Microsoft KB888111 patch (High Definition Audio Bus) prior to installing the sound (and modem) drivers. This is apparently a fairly common problem when downgrading from Vista to XP. It's not available for download directly from Microsoft, but if you Google it, you should be able to find it. Make sure you set a system restore point prior to executing the patch, just in case it screws things up. Hope this helps.
Hi Friend!
The most comun problem when you liked degrading Vista to XP, is begen to format your Hard Drive and erase the partitions of your HD. Take care and revised with the windows tools the structure of your HD, is only one. If you compare the total bytes, with the structure formatted, the quantity of bites are the same...
With your XP Cd-Rom you can realize all this tasks, and you can see the different options to reinstall your XP System, and the principal is with a clean instalation. Why? Vista create another partition in your HD with vital information and this is impossible erase with the traditional methods. Only with the formatting of all your HD, and remember, first realize the download of your principal personal files, second begen your new installation and realize the updates in the windows site and inmediatly your internet security software and the updates of this.
All the principal drivers are charged in your XP or Vista CD-Rom Disk, but if you used the chips to sound or graphics incluide in your Mother Board, this drivers, are in the mother board Cd-Rom, incluide with the Bios System, in differents files... Remember in the My PC section, you have all the information of your hardware and the status of any resource... No changes nothing if you no remember this section!
The Updates of your drivers sound of graphics, is easy search and download in Internet... Inclusive, I'm Remember Windows have a package exential drivers and is possible download in the Micosoft Website or in HP website with the model of your motherboard!
Sorry but my limitants in the english languaje, are impossible to me explain in a best and easy form to you...
Good Night and realize a clean installation... Exential erase all the partitions in your HD, and your download personal files before star your reinstall or downgrading
OK everyone,
I'm not sure if this is a Microsoft Generated Intential Problem or an actual oversite on the part of HP and/or Conexant (who BTW, makes themselves very unavailable), for OEM questions. It seem with the HD Sound Cards on at lease the Laptops, they have removed the Mic Boost in the "Advanced" setting for XP. I recently upgraded (and I mean upgraded), from Vista to HP Home.
Yes, It took some time to source all the drivers I need, (HP was only a help after 8 or 9 wrong drivers they said would work). Playing music in chat rooms, I can only be accomplished this now by keeping my Windows Sound Control open and swith between The Mic to speak or the wave out mix to play music. People can faintly hear my mic in the back ground but with this Mic Boost Feature not being available on this Conexant HD Sound Card, you cannot here my mic.
It kind of makes me think that they are trying to keep us from singing along to music or they really messed up leaving this feature out. Now I already know despite what HP Says the Realtek HD driver does not work, let alone the actual Conexant driver after UAA install.
I had to get my signed driver Reluctantly from Microsoft and I'm at their mercy. This driver is no more that an HD Form of the AC97 Driver. So if any one knows of a driver that will work and has Mic Boost in it, please let me know by either this forum or email me at michaelafromnc@hotmail.com
Thank you
Mike
I installed some USB MICROPHONE. Much better.
and I was going to suggest you post your problem in CNET's XP forum but I see you have now done that. Hopefully you will get more responses than through email.
The problem is that new Vista compatible systems nowadays are not set up for XP. You may have hardware that is designed specifically for Vista where the manufacturers have not issued drivers for the XP operating system.
Your best bet is to get all the hardware information you can off your laptop and then go to the manufacturer's web sites to search there for XP drivers; for example the video card and sound card manufacturers' web sites may have drivers for XP.
To find out the make of your hardware, download a utility like Belarc Advisor from http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html , run that and it will display a full and complete list of all the hardware and software installed on your machine. Then goto the manufacturer's web site for each component you are having problems with and search there for XP compatible drivers.
Don't forget that the computer's motherboard may also need XP compatible drivers as well.
Good luck.

You should be able to download all the drivers from HP.
There are a lot of posts there, but you should be able to clean the appropriate information for your DV6000 series computer..
Mattraka, Which HP Model Is The Computer..?
Unfortunately, you've not told us any of the specifics about your computer.. Intel processor? AMD? Which sound card? Which chipset? Intel? If it's Intel, then you should be able to install the newest "INF Update Utility" from the Intel site to restore some of the motherboard driver functionality.
For your sound problem...Below is a link from HP which contains the XP drivers for the DV9000 machines.. Use the "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp33867)" driver BEFORE installing the audio driver.

Dear Friend,
I really appreciate the time and energy you are using in helping me restore sound back to my PC. May God continue to bless you. Please, I will really appreciate it more if you can help me in getting the exact driver for the sound. I took time out to copy the number written underneath my laptop computer. They are as follows:
Product:Hp Pavilion dv6500
s/n: C NF 7424MRB
p/n: GY 131UA#ABA
dv6607nr
BIOS: PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.1
processor:AMD Athlon(tm) 64 x2 Dual-core Processor TK-53, MMX, 3DNow (2CPUs)
Those are the inscriptions written below my laptop. Please do all you can to help me.
God bless.

I believe I gave you the location for the exact driver for the sound by using the link I provided earlier. The BUS driver will need to be installed first, then install the Conexant Audio driver listed. No guarantees here as finding supported drivers is not for the faint at heart..
An effective way of knowing which device you have installed BEFORE downgrading to XP is to open the Device Manager and write down all the specific devices and their appropriate driver numbers and versions.. Unfortunately, it appears like you didn't do that.. MAYBE, you can still determine which device you have by...
RIGHT click on "My Computer", choose "Properties", then click on the "Hardware" tab, then the "Device Manager" button. Click on the + sign next to the "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers" listing and find the specific sound device you have listed there. You should see a number of devices but one will stick out as the primary device.. I'll guess it says: "Conexant High Definition Audio".. It may not.. Basically, you've already got the information by reviewing the link below which shows which device drivers the "dv6607nr" uses for Vista and compare them with the previous link I provided.. It will use the same device driver but one that's compatible with XP.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3619369&lang=en
In addition, you can determine all the other installed devices by checking the Device Manager as well.
Hope this helps.
Grif
Yes, it is Conexant High Definition Audio
Thank you all for your advise and support in restauring sound back to my pc. I couldn't have done it without you guys.thank you mostly Grif, as the link you gave me did the magic.
you guys are wonderful.
God bless you all
I hope you guys don't think I am disturbing you all, but I am still having a problem with my laptop. Only noticed that VGA DRIVER is not present as I cannot play DVDS, or any other video stuff. The last you guys helped in getting the sound driver, and I do hope the video driver that will be compatible for xp will could be gotten too with your help. I tired the link where I found the sound driver, but it wasn't compatible at the end of the download as it said it would only work for vista.
I beg your indulgence and hope you will help me again.
Thank you while I await your prompt response.
Regards,
Teddy
First, I'm not sure the VGA driver should have anything to do with playing any video stuff.. If you've got a correctly configured video screen, then it should play videos.. That said, Have you used the links I provided earlier to update your video card?
If you haven't already, be sure to install the "NVIDIA nForce Chipset Driver and Network Controller" and the "NVIDIA GeForce Series Video Driver" from the link below. (It WAS provided earlier.):
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842189&lang=en
If that doesn't get it done, then Nvidia has their own website where you can find the most current drivers for your video.
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Hope this helps.
Grif
How do I get the drivers?I tried the NVDIA website, but couldn't fill it out because I don't know how to go about finding the exact name and model of the Video driver that came with the computer. Plus I tried downloading the video driver from the links you game but after downloads, it popped a message stating that the driver couldnt detect that which is in the laptop so it prompted me to quit download.
I went through my computer to the device manager and noted that there were question marks in the begining of the following:
? Video controller(VGA Compatible)
? Base system
? Base system
? Base system
! NVIDA nForce networking controller
Only the last item listed was with a semi colon.
That is the situation. Please is there no way I can sort this out once and for all? I will be waiting for your prompr response.
Regards,
Teddy
