i have a 360 for one year, with continued playing. 2 week ago it started to make strange and loud noises when starting to read a game. My question is...it would be the laser...does it need cleaning or calibration or something?? or it is gonna be dead soon? Or by the other side may be the DVD quality for example scrachted or dirty discs? Thanks.
I got mine in october '07 (4 months ago)and from the start every time and the only time when it makes this terrible scratching noise like someone's sharpening a blade in a workshop, is when i play Halo 3.
it's sooooo annoying! it doesn't do it when playing Gears of War, CoD4, Burnout paradise or any other game! it's weird
Got mine in Oct 29th 2007... Just a week ago mine started to make strange sounds and now it wont play any of my games at all, It reads it for 20 - 30 sec and tells me to Open Tray, Close Tray, Reading... after i do this 5 - 10 sometimes 20 times it plays the disc...
Yet i put in an Audio CD it works fine, it could be scratched to hell and work fine?
At that point, it's no longer a game console. It is a really expensive CD player.
I would contact Microsoft and start the warranty claim process.
Same thing happened to me a couple months ago. I got a horrible noise, like the Xbox was trying to read a tray of gravel. It stopped working with any game. Microsoft repaired it and I am good to go again.
Yes, I'm getting scared about the drive noises myself, even tho it still works, no red ring, but even so, those noises would force me to consider retiring the X360, and focusing on playing games on a PS3 instead, since GTA IV is just released, and I'm hearing that the PS3 version of the game is a lot more reliable, even tho the X360 version of GTA IV has more features.
Well, folks, guess I'm folding the X360, and putting it on a closet shelf, never to see the light of day. Imo, the PS3 may now be the console of choice for me. I did love Saints Row and Halo 3 a lot, but right now, I'm giving this bad, white, concave box a rest.
