Microsoft bidding on Yahoo!

by Akyan - 2/1/08 3:46 AM

Its being reported as breaking news on BBC News 24 in the UK that Microsoft has placed a bid to purchase Yahoo!

I guess Microsoft really want to go for the jugular against Google by purchasing the competition, and at least Yahoo can stop sqwirming around trying to figure out what they are doing because now Microsoft will tell them what to do.

(NT) Oh and the purchase price is $44.6 billion.

Post 4 of 16

(NT) It's not, the 44.6bln is 62% higher than Y's market value.

I am interested to know what Microsoft is going to do with the business. Will they start incorporating some of the Yahoo! services into their Live brand, or will they keep stuff different I wonder?

Microsoft relevancy

by plusrich - 2/1/08 7:24 AM In reply to: Just a bit by Akyan

Is there anything good coming out of Microsoft anymore except for money they throw at other company's investors?

They seem fated to become IBMv2. They'll still be huge. Some folks will still depend upon them because it's safe and comfortable because that's what they've always done. They'll always be around. They might even have a good idea or five.

But that won't be where the action or the real interest is.

This seems like a decent deal for Yahoo's stockholders but I can't help but worry about how Microsoft would screw up things like flickr.

Don't accept yahoo!

by jarturof - 2/1/08 7:45 AM In reply to: Microsoft bidding on Yahoo! by Akyan

Your predictions are taking place, why!? why!? I love Yahoo! it was my first companion in the beginnings of the internet when I was just a boy of 11.

Microsoft is going to ruin them, changing the name to Yahoo! Live and then just Live, I hope Yahoo! resist the temptation of accepting that amount of money.

Bad

All I see from this is many people losing their jobs. Nothing good EVER comes out of these giant mergers.

Someone asked me what might happen to Yahoo. I noted that same as Hotmail and they said "What's that?" My next answer was "Exactly."

AOL bought Time Warner version 2 ?

by skylander - 2/2/08 12:24 PM In reply to: Microsoft bidding on Yahoo! by Akyan

This Microsoft/Yahoo actions reminds me AOL bought Time Warner several years ago. If Yahoo accept the deal, the only difference of this deal is both MS and Yahoo are technology company. However, I don't think this is a good deal for Microsoft. The brand of Yahoo will no longer be shine under MS management. I hope the deal won't become AOL/Time Warner version 2.

Back in time

A video of the starup of Yahoo! with interviews with Jerry Yang and Filo in 1995, the venture capitalist (now very famous) Sequoia Capital appears there.

One of the guys who did this video for the PBS now lives in my town. I nice to see a back in the time info, the guy who did the video didn't believe in Yahoo! back then, not even to be worht a single million dollars and now Microsoft is giving $44 billion for them.
