Wrong Question

by Jimmy Greystone - 10/14/07 1:49 PM In reply to: XBOX 360 ELITE VS PLASTATION 3 ???? by brockyneo

You're asking the wrong question. You shouldn't be concerned so much with which has the best graphics, but which has more of the types of games you like to play. The 360 is home to a lot of FPS games and action-adventure types. The PS3 will be more RPG and anime inspired games.

Graphics wise, the two are probably close enough that most people won't be able to tell the difference. Worry more about which console has the games YOU want to play. I'd hate to spend that kind of money on either one of them, if it's mostly going to sit around and collect dust.

What kind of TV do you have?

by Jimmy Greystone - 10/14/07 4:11 PM In reply to: LOL by brockyneo

What kind of TV do you have? If it's not an HDTV set capable of at least 720p, it won't make a bit of difference. If you have a set that can do 720p or higher resolutions, or will be getting one at some point, the PS3 probably has more staying power over the next couple of years.

I don't know how much stock to put into it, but I've heard it said that the potential on the 360 has already been reached, so games won't likely look much better than they do now. On the other hand, I don't think anyone's claimed to use more than 50% of the PS3's potential so far. How accurate any of this information is I can't say. On paper the PS3 has more raw power, but what really matters is how the developers use that potential. A game with very highly optimized code for the 360 could put a much less optimized PS3 game to total shame. Of course a well optimized PS3 game could likely blow anything the 360 is capable of, completely out of the water. Just don't get your hopes up for too many of those. That sort of game development died out years ago. It was on the wane when Microsoft entered into the console arena, and the arrival of the Xbox simply hastened its demise.

Hi

ill be running it through a 32 inch hd tv toshiba which is full hd. so by the sounds of it the 360 eliete has the better graphics for now but ps3 wil catch up and eventually take over. and blu ray is better hddvd so thats another point. Just read a lot on 360 graphics card been the only one to use unified architecture is this such a good thing for 360 against ps3 ????

Only if you're a developer

by Jimmy Greystone - 10/14/07 6:29 PM In reply to: Hi by brockyneo

Only if you're a developer does the unified graphics architecture mean anything. From the vantage point of the user, it amounts to less than jack squat.

The Xbox 360 is still built more like a small form factor computer than a game console, so for people who are used to writing PC games, that makes things a little easier. It doesn't necessarily mean it's better from a technical standpoint or anything else.

You could think of it like the difference between taking a cab and riding the bus. If all you care about is getting from Point A to Point B, they're just two different methods of solving the same fundamental problem, each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages.

Right

so what your saying is yes both are graphicly the same. But eventually ps3 will prob take over lol. Ive seen some graphics comp here

http://uk.gamespot.com/features/6162742/index.html

But i suppose the 360 has had a fair bit of time in front. I think ill go for a ps3 as ive had a 360 before

my take

by bevillan - 10/15/07 8:11 AM In reply to: XBOX 360 ELITE VS PLASTATION 3 ???? by brockyneo

My advice is similar to Jimmy's. The 360 and PS3 right now are a wash for graphics, and with multi-platform games the 360 actually has slightly better graphics. In the long run the PS3 will have better graphics than the 360, but you have to consider the lifespans of the consoles. Sony wants the PS3 to have a run of 8-10 years whereas MS will replace the 360 in another 3-5 years. So basically by the time the PS3 has a clear advantage in graphics, a new Xbox console will be coming out with better specs than the PS3.

As you can see, it is a run-around for graphics, so buy whichever console has the games you would rather play. For me, I like FPS and action games better than RPGs and platformers so I bought a 360 (also I am a big Halo fan).

Also consider that once Sony exclusives like GTA:IV, Devil May Cry: 4, and possibly MGS4 will be available on the 360 as well as the PS3.

The 360 is more of an American and Western gaming fan oriented console. If you like Japanese made games like Final Fantasy, then get a PS3.

Aren't You All Forgetting Something...

by Tiki the Torch - 10/15/07 2:11 PM In reply to: my take by bevillan

If you're looking for longevity, you should not only pay attention to a console's "staying power" but also reliability. The XBOX360, in all of its current SKUs, has a notoriously high failure rate (estimated to be somewhere in the 33% range). I have not read about any recurring issues with PS3s to date. Just a thought.

True, however

by Jimmy Greystone - 10/15/07 3:05 PM In reply to: Aren't You All Forgetting Something... by Tiki the Torch

That's true, however I would have to think that Microsoft has been working to fix this problem at the manufacturing end.

I don't recall seeing any data indicating that any of the more recently manufactured units are afflicted by this problem.

Assuming they have gotten the problem under control, it seems unfair to continually bring it up, when it's less and less likely that someone will be able to find one of these older, afflicted, units. And just to make it clear, I'm no fan of Microsoft. I think they're ruining the console gaming market and wish they'd go back to just ruining PC gaming. I just also happen to think it's unfair to keep bringing up an issue that may well have been resolved. If you have data showing even some of the most recent SKU's are affected, that's different, but if you don't, at least be honest about it and say you don't know for sure if it affects some of the recently manufactured units.

by consle expert - 10/16/07 4:41 PM In reply to: XBOX 360 ELITE VS PLASTATION 3 ???? by brockyneo

Go for the ps3 hands down alot of people right now are saying get an xbox 360 or an elite but you know what theyre brainwashed i too used to think it was better until i asked as expert the only reason people are saying xbox 360 is better is beacuse of halo 3 it' out but the ps3 is still very small and needs to develope there hasnt really been a tittle for the ps3 that it ditingushes. Be smart and get the ps3 youre getting so much more and games just wait a year and ps3 will have such awsome games like grant theft aut iv the ps3 version i dont own any of thease yet but i am getting a ps3. Remeber all 360 elite has is an hdmi no wi fi which is with the ps3 just gives 120 gb but ps3 is a laptop drive so it's upgradable up tp 700 gb so 360 is a bad chice go for the ps3 80 gb which the internet can be browsed on!

games!

by bevillan - 10/18/07 7:55 AM In reply to: PS3 by consle expert

If your criteria is buying a console that has the best hardware under the hood then the PS3 is an obvious winner...but the problem with the PS3 is that it has very few good games compared to the 360 and Wii.

Yeah the PS3 comes with built-in Wi-Fi, so what? Most people know you should hardwire your console to your router for best performance anyway.

Basically the issue is the games. The PS3 has no good games coming out this holiday season that aren't also available on the 360. The 360 has Halo 3 and Gears of War. And GTA:IV for the 360 will have more content on it for the 360 version so saying you should buy a PS3 bc of GTA:IV is just plain bad advice.

I guess if you can't live without playing Final Fantasy and MGS4 then get a PS3, but have fun waiting a LONG time before either of those games comes out.

Oh and a sidenote, fully expect to see MGS4 on the 360 a little bit after the PS3 launch. Konami knows they can't afford to just release MGS4 on the PS3 because of the lacking user base, so they will look to the 360 to turn a profit on their very expensive to produce blockbuster.

ps3 and 360..different people like different things..

by 68617919 - 1/29/08 5:20 PM In reply to: PS3 by consle expert

well, its true dat most say that people only want a 360 cuz of halo 3, but i looked at the date that u posted this, and all i got to say is, hav u not seen the 360 line-up lately, i'm not a fan boy but its tru dat 360 has better games, and will continue to get better games, sony has lost a ton of exclusives already, GTA 4 will be coming out for 360 also, if ur getting a system for games then i recommend tha 360, if ur looking for a high tech console, and sum games, then i recommend the ps3. i'm justing replying becuz wat u said was little off..i was a complete ps3 fan, and talked crap bout 360, but i saw the up coming games for 360 and ps3 and compared..and i got a wii, but later i decided to get a 360..and da only thing i regret is the many awesome games they;re putting out for 360 which is giving me a major head-ache...but i also want a ps3, for kh3, and ff13...well if u want a ps3 then go a head, its an amazing console, but remember each system hav different and same attributes, and some same attributes are more than another..just letting u no..hope u make the right choice..
