Virtual Memory Configuration

by schlicktaco - 5/31/04 8:53 PM

using windows xp pro... with a 1 gightz processor.. and 1gig of physical ram...

two hard drives ... one is 40gigger and the second is 20gigger...

the 40 gigger is partitioned twice with the os sitting on the first five gig partition by itself.. and i have my page file set up on the second 35 gig partition..

for the page file to work efficiently ... how much space within that 35 gig do i need to allocate .. i need to know what the figures are .. if anyone can help me or point me to a link or something that would be great. :) thankyou much

Common wisdom is that the PF should be 1.5-2X physical RAM. However, most folks should just let Windows manage the size.

You might consider moving the PF to the 20gb drive - putting your virtual memory on a separate pysical drive from the OS usually increses performance a bit. Also, setting the initial and maximum the same will keep Windows from constantly resizing the PF.
