sorry I just hate exclusive models

by gabereyes - 1/25/08 9:45 PM In reply to: Panny TH-50PZ700U vs. TH-50PE700U by gabereyes

I don’t believe in exclusive models, so I don’t buy them because I don’t want to promote this type of retail and sales style.

I believe if they can get away with this, so can everyone else, it’s already hard enough to pick out a TV for customers; we don’t need to add more to the confusion.

If every retailer did exclusive models the customer is the only one who losses, with no way to know which TV is better, there will be to many too review and no way to price match.

(many owners of the PE version who've commented at AVS forums that it's the same, high-quality tv as the PZ.)
Yes I don’t believe there are not happy with the PE version, but most if not all have never owned a HDTV, it doesn’t matter what type of HDTV you buy, it will always look better then the old standard TV, plus most owner reviews are one sided, of coarse the TV they own the best one, they also have the best kid, dog, wife, house, and car.

If someone can show me proof that the PE is the same as the PZ from a third party with testing and reviews from a professional not Joe blow that said so, I would say go for it, but for now I just cant believe that Costco get a better price on Panasonic TV’s then BB, CC, or any other consumer electronics retailers, without something missing from it.

I’m not saying you should spend more money, just go to who ever sales the PZ and ask them to price match It, they may or may not do it, but they might at least come down on there price.

well you've certainly given me pause

by bean99 - 1/26/08 1:18 PM In reply to: sorry I just hate exclusive models by gabereyes

another good point you make is that no one-- cnet, consumer reports, etc. has reviewed the PE version.

why is that? perhaps the PE truly is worse?

and i agree with your other point-- who would buy a $2000 tv at costco and admit they weren't happy with it? for most of us, $2000 or $2800 is alot of money...

I think* I've expressed my opinions on Costco before

by jostenmeat - 1/26/08 1:49 PM In reply to: well you've certainly given me pause by bean99

they are so good about consumer satisfaction and/or return policy. That in my opinion is highly valued stuff that you are essentially getting for free.

As for Gabe's statement of, "If every retailer did exclusive models the customer is the only one who losses", I presume he has some reason to feel that way. But, you already said it bean, its so they can have more flexibility with pricing.

Look, my BD player is a Panasonic. AFAIK, there are 3 model #s, one not ending in a "letter", one ending with "A", and one ending with "K". Not 100% sure if those are it, but I didn't really care, because they are all identical.

My long time close friend who I've travelled a lot with, is also a long time Panasonic employee. I know what the employee pricing for a good # of products better than he does. Well...

Costco's pricing is so good at times, that the prices are comparable to employee pricing. Not quite as low, but much closer than you would think. If and when that choice is presented to me, I will buy Costco for the ease of returning it due to any dissatisfaction. Does my outlook on that say something to you?

Compelling argument? Maybe, maybe not, but some more info to support my opinion.

GOOD QUESTION BEAN, THE THING IS THAT THE TEST MODELS ARE

by Riverledge - 1/26/08 2:21 PM In reply to: well you've certainly given me pause by bean99

PROVIDED FREE BY THE MANUFACTURERS RATHER THAN RETAIL STORES. THEY WANT THEIR MODEL NUMBERS "OUT-THERE."

BJ'S, COSTCO, & SAM'S CLUB DON'T PROVIDE THE "FREEBIES."

C-NET, AVS, CONSUMERS REPORTS (which buys its own HDTVs), and "SOUND & VISION" are going to review the mainstream MODELS!!!

The reason is, basically, most of the U.S.A. do not have these stores close at hand. They are usually in population pockets.

This is my take on custom labeled HDTVs: same product for less money,
because there isn't any price matching available.

A quick read on the PANASONICS; PC = PX, PE = PZ.

Usually the difference is only a "circuit board" change.

I hope you don't think they actually make two different models.

Now that would be NUTS!!!

Bean, best wishes in your quest,

Regards,

Riverledge.

All Panasonic plasmas are great

by peco412 - 1/28/08 9:19 AM In reply to: SAME HDTV, JUST A MARKETING GIMMICK by Riverledge

I have two Panasonic plasmas; an old 37" commercial ED monitor and a newer 37" consumer 720p television. They were wall-mounted in bedrooms with viewing distances of only 12', so I didn't need larger. The picture quality on both is terrific, although, I prefer the monitor to the television because it runs cooler than the television and does not have a fan. However, the television has obviously better contrast than the monitor. The viewing distance to the monitor has increased to 15' in my new house, so I was planning to replace it with a Panasonic 50" 1080p monitor, but the Costco deal might be too good to pass up. It looks so good that I'm going to check it out at the store, today. With Costco's generous 90-day return policy, I don't see any downside to this purchase. Oh, and don't wuss out and use a stand; plasmas look best when they're mounted on a wall.
