ipod suddenly stopped working.

by marcelomdsc - 1/23/08 11:38 PM

hi, I need help.
I have an ipod video, which I bought about a year ago.

Suddenly it stopped working. It seems to be working but there is no audio output. The song displays as if it was playing but there is no sound on the headphones (i tried a few different ones) and from my car stereo through itrip.
I havent dropped it lately at all. I was using it in my car as usually when the music started to skip, after that it stopped working.

It has the latest firmware update.
I did restore it to factory settings from itunes but no luck so far.
any suggestions?

thanks.

maybe there is a loose connection

in the headphone input? I guess it's probably out of warranty, so it might cost you some $$$ to get it fixed by Apple. You might be able to get it fixed for less from some other company, but I don't really know of any. I hate to suggest this because this isn't cheap either, but the Apple radio remote should work. If it doesn't it the problem is more serious. It connects via the bottom data port and hopefully the iTrip will connect to that.

thanks

well. The itrip also connects to the bottom part, so it is not just the headphones jack.

Anywya...I called apple this afternoon. My warranty is valid till march 3rd! I still have to pay 35 bucks for shipping and handling, but is better than nothing.

Ipod's get 1 year warranty for hardware and 6 months of shipping.

Hope they can't fix it...and I might get a new one. right?
maybe they'll just send it back with a 10% off discount for a ipod classic...haha...damn you steve jobs!

sorry about that

I just realized that the iTrip was bottom connecting - just got back from my local target and saw the iTrip.

It's cool that it is still under warranty. Anyway, I'm not sure if you'll actually get your player back. If it is anything like the battery replacement program, they just send you back a new or refurbished one.

hhaha

yeah...well it is not the battery for sure.
Is pretty weird, i dont think is a hardware failure. but a software failure should be solved with the restore to factory settings...and it wasn't so...we'll see.

Warranty?

I remembered that Apple has a limited warranty of some kind... I suggest you call those guys first: 1-800-APL-CARE

same thing has happened to me....

by allthatglltters - 2/19/08 11:01 AM In reply to: when it rains, it pours.... by ktreb

Hello- my ipod 30gb video has stopped playing sound. It won't transmit any sound at all, through the headphone jack or lower jack FM transmitter. It looks fine, meaning its playing, but there is no sound. I did get the ipod 3 years ago, when it 1st came out, but does anyone know if anything can be done about this problem, or should i just get a new 1?

Thanks!

Good news! (at least for me anyway)

by marcelomdsc - 2/19/08 2:28 PM In reply to: same thing has happened to me.... by allthatglltters

bad news for allthatglltters.
I sent my ipod to apple and in about 4 days I got a box back with what I thought was my repaired ipod. They actually sent me a new one.

As I said mine was under warranty and they couldnt repair it, so I guess you (allthatglltters) are out of luck. Sorry.

PS: I have to give credit to apple. Though I was a little bit upset as I had to pay 35 bucks for shipping, they were really fast (the whole process was about 5 or 6 days), and they sent me a new one right away, even though my warranty was going to expire in less than 10 days after I first called.
