I have a folder of some 1500 photos that I need to search and be portable on my sales calls. I purchased a 60G about 18months ago.
Did not work as desired.... It is virtually to search by photo title as needed.
Whether it's an iPod or Zune, careless for either one.
I prefer the Archos MP3 players, they can do so much more than any iPod can do plus they have a larger screen.
Interested that almost 50% have never had an IPod. I have not got one yet but may do. For me they are still something very new -- I always wait until new technology has been tried to get rid of all the bugs. Have been conisdering whether to get one.
I first started with an Archos 20GB model and when I filled that up chose a 40GB Creative Zen. Both had features I liked but as my library grew and I was able to convert more albums and tapes into mp3s I then decided to go for the model that I had always heard was the best, a 60GB iPod Photo model. It didn't take too long before I fell in love with the simple operation of it and the quality of the sound. I never was an Apple fan and felt that their price wasn't the most customer friendly but after having the iPod for several months, comparing it to my prior players the difference in money seemed to justify itself. I now have the iPod Classic 160GB model and hope to have room on that one for a while. What has changed in a radical way was that my introduction to Apple products, via the iPod, led me to a much more radical decision. I had always heard how Apple Computers were loved by the seemingly cultist followers that used them so when a lightning surge took out my desktop PC I decided to try a Mac. I was skeptical and I was biased toward the PC/Windows market but within a month I was like a addict with Mac as my drug of choice. I actually found a reason to be a child again. Just like that enthusiasm at Christmas when you get that perfect gift I found the holy grail of computing. Computers were fun again and so very much more usable. One year and a few months later my Toshiba Laptop, working perfectly well took a back seat to a MacBook Pro. The transformation was complete Now "I'm a Mac" and can't imagine ever returning to Windows again. Cost wise it was a bit more but the added cost was more than offset by the quality of Apple products, their simplistic yet powerful way of working and their Solid quality. Do I have things about Apple I don't like? Of course, especially in the way they market their products. iPod's led me to experiment with the Mac line of Computers and for that enlightening into a much more pleasurable world of computing it's more than tenfold paid for itself. There are plenty of Apple haters and whether it be Steve Jobs or Apples very restrictive marketing and closed system who knows but in my opinion The Best only continues to get Better and in time as people continue to experiment as I did Apples market share will only continue to grow.
Never owned one- never will. I'm as old as my user name - "Tuatara".
4th gen 20GB ipod for $80. I wanted mass music for my car. It'd be more expensive to install a CD or hd based mp3 player in my car, so the ipod with an iRiver FM transmitter did the trick. I use it every few months or so when driving long distances, tyipically over 100mi.
Compact, intuitive, durable, . . . just a smart solution. As with most things Apple, it--with iTunes-- just works great and I have in my shirt pocket more audio content than I could use in years and that doesn't even include the music. And the organization is fantastic--a database of every audio piece I still own or have collected. And then there is the video. . . And almost all of this is free outside the cost of the device which given the quality and performance of others I have looked at makes them worth every penny.
I have to admit being a little shocked at the number of "applephobes" out there. Computers, listening devices, pda's, cellphones, and the like are not for everyone. That's OK. Still can't beat a good book or a walk in the woods. Personally, I will never listen to 10% of the stuff I've collected, but it's there when I want it and its so easy to find.
Never say never.
I will never own one of those things. Reasons? First, I don't like Apple or their products. Second, I don't like MP3 in general. So much fidelity gets lost in the compression. There is a thing called CDs, people. They sound better! Third, XM RADIO BABY!! Fantastic selection, incredible sound, can take it as many places as the iPOD. And I don't care about video. I just can't see the apeal of watching video on a 2-inch screen! So that is my portable of choice. But that's just me. No offense to you iPODDers out there!
Never had one and probably won't. Just don't need one. It is not a necessity in life and money is better spent elsewhere.
I have just ordered my 3rd ipod, the ipod touch. I love apple products mainly because they are so well designed. Just look at an apple mac. So much sleeker than all the other boxes. I read others saying 'over priced'. I can hardly see how when you compare the technology in them compared to other maker's clunky products.
GO APPLE ![]()
I was going on vacation in 2002 and I wanted something to do while waiting in line at the airport so I bought a iPod. I looked at other players which was limited at that time and the iPod appeared to be best mp3 player available at that time. Other mp3 players didn't have as many features if the iPod and the iPod had game built-in, breakout.
I remember ripping all of my CDs to my PowerBook and then uploaded them to iPod took days because not all songs had track names so half them where entered manually entered.
I just woke up from a coma, what's an ipod? I have a nice record player but the needle skips when I jog with it sometimes. Hate that.
it was a free offer from the bank. My daughter needed to sign up for a checking account, so I signed up for one also. I put in a minimal of funds, got the required credit card and waited about 3 months or so.
My nano came in the mail. I was not about to buy one, but now that I have it, I am quite addicted to having it. I hope to get an Iphone this year, so I probably won't upgrade my ipod. The newer ones are nice with the video and stuff, but I'm not into watching too much video. I like getting tunes from Itunes that I am learning for my vocal lessons and putting them on my ipod. Then when I walk the dog I practice while listening to the ipod. It is revolutionary and much easier to carry around than my cd player.
At the moment I have never owned an iPod. I have got other MP3/WMA players, a Durabrand/Asda/Walmart one that I can wear round my neck, a portable CD player one and a iPaq that works jointly as a SatNav and MP3/WMA player (and video player/word viewer/etc/etc) and a PSP.
There is only one reason I might consider buying an iPod. I stupidly bought Christ Moyles Audio Book to listen to in work from iTunes, thinking that I would be able to convert it to MP3 or WMA format for my portable players. However unfortunatly Apple forbid converting Audiobooks to any other format than their own iPod format. Although I really can't justify giving in to Apple's monopolising attitude just to listen to this audio book that I purchased and own the rights to listen to this when and where I want to.
I can understand the slight problem of being able to convert it to MP3 meaning that anyone can then distribute it over the internet however WMA can be protected just like Apple's M4P format so why wont Apple let me convert it to that, simple answer they want to force everyone to use their music player (oddly enough in a similar way that a well known company tried to force everyone to use it's own web browser by shipping it with its OS in such a way that it was hard to remove it)
Then rip it back onto your computer as an mp3.
