Other: think about the implications of the choices!

by SBHollingsworth - 1/23/08 7:08 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I've never owned an iPod, but I might someday. No choice for me but other? That seems silly but nothing else fits.

At such time as I can get an iPod cheap and be able to load it with music from my choice of sources, then maybe. That's a long way from never. My Rio Volt player still works. There's no hurry.

I don't own one. I never have, and probably never will

by LionsMike - 1/23/08 7:16 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

REASON probably the same reason that I do not own a cell phone I JUST HAVE NO NEED TO.

I owned a portable cassette player in the late 60s or early 70s. It took me a few months to get over the fad of having portable music.

I never owned any portable music devices (except perhaps a car radio) since.

I wonder just how many people have been killed because they were listening to music and did not hear something comming at them until too late.

My first iPod,

by non20 - 1/23/08 7:24 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I got my first iPod as a gift. It was a shuffle, nice and small traveled well. within the first 30 days of owning it, the base brook. so i do not use it anymore. I got to use it about 6 times before it brook. I contacted apple (Apple store) and was told that the probable was my fault and that they would not replace the brocken base. apples return policy is 14 days from date of purchase, that include time before the item is given as a gift.

I prefer other brands.

by cabouche - 1/23/08 7:26 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have 1 Zen Vision and one Sony MP3 player. Better prices, better features better compatibility at the time of the buy.
I don't like APPLE...!!! i think that people buy i-pods beacause don't make the necesary investigation about other excellent options.
My daughter ask me to buy buy one for her, I went to www.creative.com and show her the prices and the features... the desition was obious...another ZEN vision in the family.

Who cares?

by MrTommy - 1/23/08 7:35 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I chose "never owned one, never will" because I just don't get it. Why does anyone need zillions of songs on their person? Why do you need a 'computer' thingie that holds tons of your favorite songs? I don't need ANY of my favorite songs with me - at ANY time. I'm at a loss for words. I guess I just stick to the "I Just Don't Get It" theme.

I just don't get it...!

Got a shuffle for listening to a sales presentation.

by denoggle - 1/23/08 7:37 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I like the portability of my shuffle. I bought an iHome to keep it charged and to hear music where there are no CD/DVD machines around. I also use it with my Yamaha Silent Brass system. I can play away next to my wife as she reads her gardening mags! I bought my daughter a Nano and an iHome for her Nano. Both iHomes are alarm travel alarm clocks as well. Apple really has a good thing going!

Never had an iPod and probably never will

by garylea - 1/23/08 7:41 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I can get the same thing with a device that's cheaper and I can purchase the music that I choose to download to it. When my daughter had a problem with her computer last year she was afraid she was going to lose all her iPod music and be required to repurchase it. She has all her music backed up on CD now but I'm not sure the licensing would allow her to restore it in a usable form. I don't want to have to worry about that.

I have vinyl that I don't often play (I want to make the turntable and the records last), reel to reel tapes that I will need to replace with a new form of media because the player is broken and can't be fixed and and I don't know where to buy another one, tapes and CDs that are rapidly becoming obsolete. I get just a little upset when music companies complain about their supposed shrinking revenues.

I'll never buy an iPod

by AliaMoore - 1/23/08 7:43 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

The fact of the matter is that I don't want something that they will purposely under-design in order to release the next product that costs more, stores less three months after making a significant financial investment. I appreciate my Zune because even after releasing a 2nd Gen, Microsoft did not render my 1st Gen obsolete. That's how you treat a customer.

Other

I've always wanted one since it first came out. But at the time I didn't have the right computer since it was Mac only and then when they became available for pc, it was firewire only. Then the final hurdle was cost. As soon as one was available at a price I can live with, I ended up getting a 4GB Mini. It was easier and more stable than any player I had before that.

Why I never got an iPod and never will !!!

by kstenbch - 1/23/08 7:44 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I wanted an MP3 player so that I could keep my entire music collection with me and listen to it whenever I wanted. However, the the only iPod that could house my 15+ GB of music cost almost $500.00 at the time. I did some research and found an iRiver MP3 player at Newegg.com for less than half of Apple iPods almost $500.00. The total price was $185.00. I have the accessory to listen to and charge my iRiver 20 GB MP3 player through my cars FM radio for another $30.00. That is why I have never owned and never will own an iPod MP3 player by Apple.

First iPod

by Ogee101 - 1/23/08 7:48 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I am from the days of the Walkman and never thought I would own another type of product as such, however, after buying one for my 30 year old daughter, I was amazed at the number of songs stored and the quality of the sound----So-----I bought my wife an iPod Nano for Christmas. I loaded it from my music collection on my PC and she loves it. So do I. Think I'll get one for me. I also got her a JBL dock with the remote and it plays FANTASTIC !!! I would recommend the JBL dock. It is compact and the sound is far more than I expected from such a small unit. And it is designed in a very attractive round dock.

No Ipod for me... thanks

by faustolg - 1/23/08 7:58 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I was curious at the beginning, I wanted an Ipod, but then I discovered about the 2 files attached to the Windows Socks layer, that Itunes install... by myself.
For me that was an alarm, spying on my PC??? Why 2 file in the socks layer? only spyware do that...
If you destroy the files, no internet or network... uninstall never worked so I reinstalled windows...
So I never bought an Ipod, instead I bought a Sony MP3 player (MP3 Discman)
the first lasted 2 years (day to day use, 3 to 5 hours of use everyday)
the second one, still working (same use).
No Ipod before, now or ever.

The real question - why would I ever own one

by peter4012 - 1/23/08 8:04 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have enjoyed music all my life - but I mean enjoy - not have it drone 24hrs into my ears at so-so quality - through so-so hear pieces
nor do I have the need to carry any more gagets around - If I'd really get desperate I could use my phone...
The Video I-pod --- ageadds to that issue issue - can't see the darn thing - if I want to see a movie - I want to relax - sit back and enjoy it - not huddly, sqint and shield glare --
I go to the park, the beach, the zoo or jog to be in the park, the beach, the zoo or jog, I go to the theater or home for the movies or music --- why let any one of them ruin the other.

Why I don't own an Ipod

by Melyash - 1/23/08 8:11 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I pretty much despise (sp?) anything "Apple" from their obnoxious TV adds with their smug spokesperson, to thier attitude about music portibility. Apple with it's smug attitude will slowly become just another brand name, and the "better than thou" attitude will fade into a "wow was I a jerk" memory as JOB's sells them out once again. After getting screwed once when they set adrift thousands of customers by tossing aside things like Backward Compatiblity and an upgrade path worth taking, I watched as my friends blindly wandered off and bought newer versions of a product that Job's and Company soon threw out like yesterdays newspaper.

I consider it enough of a sellout to this meglomaniac to download Podcasts from iTunes, but somehow I fear he is still making money off me. That is why I bought a Zen Vision W. Direct download from camera into it, movies in 16x9 and a screen that you don't have to get a magnifying glass to see what is going on.

No iPods! Not one.

by Bob_Meyer - 1/23/08 8:15 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Apple is too proprietary. I use my Palm T/X with PocketTunes as my portable player. Great sound, great video, big screen, easy to sync with anything, unlimited media on SD cards, ... Who needs an iPod?
