Cause all my friends had one

by ESUNintel - 1/23/08 5:02 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I'll be honest, I got my first iPod with out knowing what it really did just cause all my frineds had one. I just remember being 18, getting my first job, and saving so I could buy a 20GB white looking brick. I must say, it was one of the best things I ever got!! I later got the Nano, cause I wanted something smaller, than the Zune came out, and I felt it was time to give Microsoft a chance in the MP3 industry; but it turned out I hated my Zune. I than got an 80GB iPod, but later decided I would never need something that big, so I got an other Nano, cause I loved the way it linked with my Nike sneakers. When the new Nano (the Nano video came out), I got on of those, but then I decided to give an other player a try, this time the new Sony Walkman MP3 player with Napster. I loved Napster buy missed iTunes, so today I got my new iPhone in the mail from ColorwarePC.com. ...which iPod or MP3 player will I get next, maybe the Zune Phone or the PSP Phone?? Who knows.

Because I needed a portable audio device.

by anisemurphy - 1/23/08 5:03 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I got my first iPod because an audio book website offered a $100 credit toward the purchase of a portable audio device if you subscribed for a year. As a long distance commuter, I really liked how easily I could purchase and download audio books to my iPod so I could listen to them in my car while I sat in traffic.

iPod - Never Owned One, Never Will

by JSchafran - 1/23/08 5:07 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Have this old fashioned idea that when I buy something, I own it. Could never understand why I could move files from a computer to an i-Pod, but could not move them back. Old fashioned, I know, but hey, I'm a 59 year old spinning at 33 1/3 RPM in a MP3 World -- And I own a Creative Zen, Sirius Stiletto, and LG Voyager, all of which allow me to manipulate all of my music files with no restrictions....

iPod

by lxcarr04 - 1/23/08 5:18 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I got my 1st iPod (Photo) when the government was sending me to a hotel in Atlanta for 4 weeks, I was sick and didn't want to go, and certainly not without my music and photos. The "techie" at the office recommended that I get the extended warranty (which neither he nor I usually recommend), because "there are still a lot of battery issues with iPods"..thank you Bob, Apple has replaced my iPod twice and when it dies this time (warranty has totally expired) I will get something with fewer "issues."

Already had Rhapsody

by mrskelly - 1/23/08 5:25 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I already had Rhapsody and was using it all the time, so why use itunes when I'm already paying for a subscription to Rhapsody. I got a Sandisk so I can download mostly everything I want and got a player for both daughters for Christmas.

I bought my only iPod, 8 gig, after my iTunes library got too big to back up on cds.

Post 68 of 202

nope. not going to get one, either.

by back_water_tech - 1/23/08 5:29 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have a mp3 player, dvd player, and gps all wrapped up in a nice 6 1/2 pound package. It is called a laptop. :p

I see no need for a portable media device of the nature of an ipod. when I run, it is on a treadmill. when I dance, it is at a club.

When i decide to jam to my favorite music, I am in the car, in the garage or in the house. Each of these locations have proper music recreation equipment. (and the car and home also have satalite radio)

I know, I am told that I am very old fasioned for my mere 33 years of age, but i don't see a need for personal entertainment devices. If it can't do anything else, then screw it. Ipods, Iphones and other "crosover" units just need to go away.

But hey, the little kiddies love em. Just not for me. . . :D

Needed a music thinger

by GavinSimmons - 1/23/08 5:36 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

My first iPod was the second generation iPod. I was sooo cool. It wasn't really all the rage quite yet. You had to be a mac user to even use one. Everyone at school had a cd player with esp (hahahahahaha.. losers). I loved showing how simple and how useful it was to people, especially my parents. I bought it because I had at the time some 3 or 4 thousand mp3's in my iTunes and simply grew tired of reburning cdrw's when I wanted some new trax to listen to on the tram to school. I think it was 10gb and that was amazing at the time. Of course that would hold less than a sixth of my music today (and none of my videos, movies, notes or podcasts). I soon found out why people don't just walk around with harddrives in their pocket -headcrash! I killed my first iPod in a drop at the market and the third in a drop at the gap. Hard drives just weren't meant for jostling. The third iPod (a 3rd gen) lasted the longest. The iPhone is on ATT, but I'm on Verizon soooo -yeah no iPhone. I wouldn't buy a competitor though because I doubt iTunes or isync will ever support a Voyager. I was considering an iPod touch because they can't have headcrashes (flashmemory), but right now I am working with a little Coby 1gb mp3 player that doubles as a flash drive. I can run with it and I can drop it as if it were hot.

My iPods

by sandor_f - 1/23/08 5:39 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

got my first one - a 5 GB 1G iPod back in 2002. It was a graduation gift from my wife. It is now used by my wife's grandmother every other day while she is sitting at dialysis. An 87 year old woman uses it 3 times a week, and has no trouble with it - that is ease of use.

I did add an aftermarket battery to it - about 20 hours of battery life now, so she can listen to the Rat Pack to her heart's delight.

SInce then we have gotten a 3G, 1G nano and a 1G mini. all for $79 a piece (new) through Apple "Back to school" deals. (buy an iBook, get a dirt cheap iPod and a free printer) Who could turn down such a deal?

All are working well, with the 3G getting a new battery and a 30 GB hard drive update (15 GB originally). They are actually easy to update yourself.

Never owned an iPod

by Dreslinski59 - 1/23/08 5:40 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Well, I shouldnt have said I'd never own one, but I like to have a FM radio. I am very pleased with the choices I have made. My first MP3 was by ScanDisk and the latest one is a COWON.

No Need to Spend the Excessive $$ for an iPod

by jgrass316 - 1/23/08 5:51 PM In reply to: Never owned an iPod by Dreslinski59

Can get more capability with Creative Zen, MS Zune, Sansa etc for a lot less bucks. I currently have a 16Gb Sansa Rhapsody player that has FM and voice recording for less than 1/2 the equivalent cost of what an iPod would have cost for same capability.

Also, originally I also stayed away because I did not want to use iTunes. But for the many people who read this, want to let them know that there is an alternate to iTunes. It is called Anapod Explorer by Redchair Software. I have heard it is much better than iTunes although I personally have never used it.

I got this as my latest digital audio player...

by ZTBELL21 - 1/23/08 5:45 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

First, I needed an audio player that would work with my new MacBook Pro. Second, I needed storage capacity that neither Creative or Microsoft offered on their players. For those two reasons, I obtained an iPod Classic 80GB. I have already found several uses for this player, including the Disk Use Mode, where I can use this as an external HDD, the iQuiz Game which helps me do more research into my music, and, of course, iTunes integration (which works very well in a "dual-platform" college campus).

In my area, there are very few stores that carry any accessories for portable players other than iPod, and those are just as overpriced as iPod's accessories. In particular, I found silicone sleeves for $10, compared to $30 for a Sandisk Sansa e250 I already owned.

Overall, I really like my iPod. I almost wouldn't want anything else, now that I own one.

Why did you get your first iPod?

by bcart263 - 1/23/08 5:48 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I've never owned an Apple iPod nor do I ever plan to. However, I have purchased 1 MP3 Player which is all one really needs when listening to music. Who watches the LCD screen when they are listening? What the big deal about seeing the album cover of the artist playing. No one walks around looking at the iPod screen. It's just a marketing ploy to buy Apple's product.

Had one, HATED IT. Cowon all the way for me.

by ww05002 - 1/23/08 5:49 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I had one (80GB) video as a gift, and after hearing the output sound from Cowon...I never looked back. I use Shure SE530 molded ear canals...and the problem with most MP3 players jave which Cowom does not is...well, the audio is would fall under, -Crap. The audio coming out of them simply can't be tweaked enough to suit me. Cowon is the only playes (iRiver comes very close...Very, VERY close) to suiting my personal needs. I love iTunes, but not the iPod. I can't have both, so I went with sound rather than playlists from iTunes. I now have the Cowon 16GB iAudio 7 ...the A2 and the 60GB touchscreen Q5. Nothing...and i truly mean NOTHING iPod has to offer can replace the ease, support for files, Visuals of 720P output, 800x600 screen, and sound that Cowon has to offer. Archos is a close second, and Clix is up there too. Thank you apple for getting the ball rolling, but I'm just choosing a different path.
