I have never owned an iPod for at least two reasons. 1) I am totally capable of walking down the street without music playing in my ear. I am able to put "music" in my step. 2) I will never own anything whose name starts with a lower case "i".
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
I've never had an iPod of my own, though I'm impressed with both the current and the previous Nano. I bought the previous one for my daughter for Christmas 2006, and the new Nano for my son this past Christmas. But when it was time to get my own player last year, I ended up going for a Sansa e260, which I quite like. It had a number of features the iPods lack, and the one that mattered to me was its ability to record via a built-in microphone. I'm an actor, and wanted that as a tool to help in memorizing scripts.
Is an iPod in my future? Maybe!
I was an early adopter to mp3 players. I first bought the Creative Nomad Jukebox 6gig. I still have it and it works fine.
I next got a Phillips 30 gig player and still use that today with the docking station.
The reason I will not go to an Ipod has more to do with Itunes. I really hate these music programs that take over. IE WMP11,Itunes,Yahoo jukebox. I much prefer to hands on sort and name my files.
I also use the linksys music bridge and stream the music to my stereo.
My fav software to use with that is Virtual Music Jukebox.
I buy things I think are cool."
I am not saying that is the only reason. I am sure many people have weighed the pros and cons and settled on one iPod or another. But come Christmas time, it is amazing the people who will tell you they want an iPod, and then cannot tell you why. If you want something for no reason (other than "buzz") then you are a dork. A few episodes of South Park will teach you that. Cartman is a dork who hounds him mother to buy him status symbols.
For all you deafened heroes out there, I HAVE NEVER OWNED AN iPOD AND NEVER WILL!!!
The damage you are doing to your hearing in the long run is immense an irreparable by shoving the earphones into places where, and I quote from a surgeon in the sphere of ENT, "Nothing smaller than your elbow should be put in your ears."
Sage advice, and that will do for me.
I NEVER WANTED AN IPOD!
Well the first ipod i got was a defective unit that my buddy bought from bestbuy, he called apple about a clicking noise it made before it shutdown. Sorta like what the zunes were all facing before they went over to solid state storage. So he called apple and they refused to honor the warrenty and told him it would be like 150 to fix it, so frustrated he got and a piece of junk ipod i got. >.> i was like whoopdi-doo. So i tried my hand at it, well long story short i got apple to honor their warrenty and take mine aswell as ship a replacement all fer free. LOL well i was surprised that from the time mine left the house till the time i got the replacement it was only like 3 days. By this time my friend got an OLD creative brick offa ebay. he still uses that 20 gig brick of lead today LOL. Well i turned around and sold it ( 2nd gen 20gig ) right away to purchase an m:robe ( 5gig ) So, technically speaking, i later got 4 ipods in the exact same way ( m:robe battery leaked a few days after i bought it, returned under warrenty ) Got the ipod back from the guy i sold it to, he couldnt get it working on his pc, so off and on i kept selling the free icraps i kept getting. UNTIL i got a psp, remained my mp3 player till i got the Creative Zen Vision: W. Which i have, will keep, and protect like a chunk of gold. LOL Ipods, outdated and overrated/overhyped, gimmicked. T.T *passerby: dude you dropped yer ipod! *me: thats ok, i never liked it anyway. ![]()
I shifted banks to get it and hated it. It's on my shelf - love the new iPod Touch although I don't use it as much as I thought.
I'm a musician so my ultimate goal is to put my songs and maybe videos on it for show-off
I got my first ipod "free" with the purchase of a Macbook. I used it no stop for the first 6 months I owned it and haven't touched it sense. It's been almost a year.
Windows Mobile.
I have an HTC Hermes (aka ATT 8525) and it can do SOOOOO much more. Don't need another device to play music too. And don't tell me 'iphone'... ugh.. it's a nice phone, but it's no where near as versatile as the WM phones are, and can be.
The 1st one I got was the Mini. It worked great for a long time, but I eventually abused it to death. While I had that one, I got a Shuffle for camping, hiking and my wife running. That one worked great, but as with the Mini, the construction left a little to be desired and we eventually wore it out, too.
Currently, my wife uses a newer (metal case) Shuffle, and a year later, it looks brand new. I got a 3rd Gen. Nano just before Christmas, and it is awesome!
Some people complain about the proprietary nature of iTunes and Apple's products. I'm certainly no fanboi (in fact, I can't stand their computers and their commercials just tick me off!), but I heartily recommend the iPod (any of them, really) as a good, all-around mp3 player. Sure, if there's a special need you want (FM Tuner, etc...) you may find a better player, but for my money, and my standard needs (I just want a good player, with decent features, which is easy to use and doesn't cost a fortune) my iPods have worked great!
I got my iPod Touch because I was curious about the new technology and interface. And, I did need a new MP3 player anway. But, the iPod classic and Nano, I would never buy. My previous MP3 player was a Creative Zen Vision: M. It got great reviews and excellent audio quality. I think that the Creative Zen is a much better MP3 player than the ipod classic or video. But, since I made my switch to Mac, my Zen no longer worked on my MacBook Pro, which was a bummer. But, I am very satisfied with my iPod touch. No regrets on the iPod touch whatsoever.
I've always carried my digital stuff on my pda. With the HTC Mogul being my constant companion, I have access to music and all my movies at home via Orb. No need for any ipod. I don't carry a big purse around, just a phone wallet that hold my phone and bank card. The world is always at my fingertips with my All-in-One phone-pda.
I received my iPod touch 16gb as a Christmas gift, as I hinted to the gift-giver that I wanted it. If I hadn't received it as a gift I would have bought it because of the features. Before the Touch came out, I would NEVER have bought an iPod, because they lack so many features that other, cheaper players have, but this was the only player available that was just the right size w/ a nice touch screen and WiFi, plus it has one of the best, if not the best interface for a portable device on the market. I am, however, somewhat upset about the recent update, as the new units being shipped from the factory include it, as do all iPhones for free, and Macs come with great software included. If you just bought a Mac, you don't have to pay to get iLife, and iPhones include everything you need when you buy them. Please send emails to apple/Steve Jobs to maybe get this price changed. If there were changes in pricing, or removal of update cost entirely as a result of emails, This would make, I'm sure, a lot of early adopters (like myself) very happy.
...but they agitate me at the same time. For me personally, my little iPod Shuffle does the job rightly. I love how it syncs with iTunes easily and with little time wasted, it also makes good entertainment if I'm out jogging or walking the dog. What really gets up my nose is how the iPod has been and will always continue to be a 'Status Symbol'. Often people who have little interest in music, and a music library of 100 songs tops will go out and buy a 30gb iPod because it looks good in their pocket. Grr...
Everywhere you look, people have got the little, famous white buds in their ears. There's no individuality. None at all. I'm in Year 12 at school and you're considered odd if you don't have an iPod. Then of course we have those people who think that the term 'iPod' covers every range of MP3 Player in existence.
"Hey there, I see you got an iPod for Christmas"
"No it's the new Zen"
"There's an iPod Zen?"
