Also received mine as a gift

by MusicOrganizer - 1/24/08 10:31 AM In reply to: Received as a gift (that I specifically asked for....) by Alan Petsche

It is seriously the best present. I felt a little guilty just spending a bunch of money on myself...but I really wanted one. It helps my workouts so much to download a great album and get to it. My favorite right now to run to is the new Moby cd. It has such a good beat that it makes the workout go so much faster.

Also for any misspellings you can use FixTunes to correct the song tags and album art. It's just more fun when all the albums show up so that you can scan through them and they can look great. FixTunes also takes care of the fixing process for you so that you can upload your music and albums and have FixTunes take care of assigning tags and art.

Creative is better

Eh, I'm not a fan of Ipods. Too restrictive. The only mp3 players I have owned have been the 40 gb Creative Zen Touch, the 30 gb Zen Vision, and the 1-gig I-River T-10 for gym use. All have been great.

IRIVER can record analog signal; drop and drag

by Laserman88 - 1/23/08 7:43 PM In reply to: Creative is better by lobo65

i like the little 1GB iriver units--they can record analog signals digitally and you just plug into the computer and drop and drag to manage files. EASY! FUNCTIONAL! TINY! i keep one plugged into my synthesizer to record everything i do.

Found My Ipod

by Chrissie2005 - 1/24/08 2:22 AM In reply to: Creative is better by lobo65

I never wanted an iPod because I never thought I needed one. We were on a vacation and my mom found something shiny lying in the water. He picked it up and thought it looked like a neat cigarette case. She brought it to the motel room. She left for the day and I came in and saw the not-so-shiny "cigarette" case. I went over to it. Looked at it and DANG it was an Ipod! My mom left a note saying she had found this thing in the water and wanted it to dry out, so DO NOT TOUCH IT!

Of course I touched it! I turned it on and even though it was very scratched the ipod worked! I went looked through the ipod for some sort of identification. It showed NO Contacts in its address book! I called Apple and gave them the serial number and Apple told me it wasn't registered to anyone!!! I wanted Apple to call the owner and tell them that I had their iPod!

I went to several internet sites where people had reported losing their ipods and placed an ad. No one lost their ipod where I was at!

Finally, I talked to Apple again and they suggested before I left, I could take it to the police station. I did that and the police kept it for 30 days and gave it back to me because no one claimed it! So now it actually belongs to me!! I felt so bad for the original owner though! It was a 60Gb iPod and was one of the newer ones out at that time! It is very scratched and damaged from being on the beach when mom found it, but I bought a boatload of accessories for it and loaded it with movies and songs! It's the coolest thing I have ever had!

I have spent loads of money on my found ipod and hope the battery will last a long, long time because I love to watch movies on it and everything! I take it everywhere! I have speakers so that I can listen without earbuds.. I have earbuds too, but don't want to damage my ears.

I JUST WANT TO STRESS: IF YOU LOSE AN IPOD, PLEASE MAKE SURE TO PUT YOUR NAME IN THE CONTACT'S PART OF YOUR ADDRESS BOOK ON THE IPOD!
Many people may not want to return it to you--but if your name is there, your ipod could come back to you! :)

I would never have gotten an ipod if this hadn't happened for me and now I may get another in the future because I just love mine!

I want to know if the iphone works as well? Can you hear well on the phone part? Does it drop many calls?

Thanks for the replies :)

Needed a replacement for my car's CD changer..

by EscapePod - 1/23/08 4:20 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

The factory 10 disc CD changer (Pioneer)in my GM car failed, and the iPod Nano, coupled with a Peripheral iPod2Car interface, was the perfect replacement. With the correct adapters, I unplugged the trunk cable from the changer, plugged it into the iPod2Car, and am able to fully control my Nano from the car's factory radio.

Price, including iPod and iPod2Car, was way less than a new changer (even a used one).

never had one ... ear specialist says dont !

by dissapointed in vista - 1/23/08 4:29 PM In reply to: Needed a replacement for my car's CD changer.. by EscapePod

40 yrs old .. went to a ear specialist a while back (2006) with a hearing loss .. first question doc had for me is do i wear a ipod. i asked why ? his response was " so many people wear in the ear headsets and turn up the volume high enough to damage their hearing permanently over time.

according to him, many people come to him with hearing loss use earbuds or other in the ear headsets. usually people turn the volume high to drown out outside noise contributing to long term damage..

the bottom line ...

i would like to hear my music when im 80... no headphones for me...

hearing loss

To bad I can't just blame I-pod for that, It's been an ongoing problem and not just with head sets, but with these 1000 watt car amps - and I too would like to hear and enjoy things when I get old

Invest in hearing aid companies - in 10-15 years 1/2 the population will be deaf

Probably never will

by krasno - 1/23/08 4:21 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have Sennheiser wireless headphones that I use with the computer or CD player. I don't like walking about with headphones on out in the street, I don't even have music or the radio on in the car unless I find myself in a traffic jam. When I first bought a Walkman cassette player, I found I hardly used it after the first couple of weeks and suspect the same thing would happen with an ipod.

Never owned an iPod and I never will

by jameshosmer - 1/23/08 4:22 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I don't like how the iPods are so restrictive. I don't need a portable video player. only something for my MP3's. my RocBox works great and I don't have to worry about certain audio files not working on it. plus the iPods are way to expensive.

Just 'cause...

by eibbor7 - 1/23/08 4:23 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I've owned 3 ipods to date.

My first one was a 5th gen video. I bought it because it seemed to do what I wanted it to do. I don't expect much out of such a device. I don't expect stellar sound quality, since we're dealing with compressed audio anyway. I don't care about videos, radio, games, or whatever else. I just want something that plays music, holds a lot of it, doesn't take too long to transfer, and is generally portable.

And that's exactly what I got with the video. Except, that one was a buggy piece of crap that would constantly freeze and just spontaneously delete everything on it. I exchanged it for a new one (at no cost to me, as it should be), and used an ipod shuffle my dad won at a golf tournament. That this was awful. I can't help but wonder what was going through the head of the Apple designer who thought that thing up. "Lets design a music player with NO VISUAL INTERFACE!" Even that little shuffle could hold a bit under 100 songs. When you're looking for a particular song, and you have 100 of them to filter through, having no visual interface SUCKS.

But, once I got my new video, everything has been working completely flawlessly since.

People will likely argue that other companies produce better products with more features. I don't doubt it. But I don't care. The ipod was relatively cheap, and does what I want it to do. I'm not some rabid Apple fanboi... I've yet to own any other Apple product (though that may change, as I'm growing tired of the instability of XP, and my experiences with Vista have been analogous to playing hide and seek in a maze with a mouse, where time periodically freezes, and you have to start from scratch), but the ipod just seemed to fit my needs. If this one breaks, I'll probably buy another one.

Never

by Rothrigo - 1/23/08 4:26 PM In reply to: iPoll: Why did you get your first iPod? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

-- Never owned one, never will

Because:
- lack of FM radio
- no dedicated buttons for volume
- iTunes only

Never have...never will

Their format is too restrictive...and at the time I purchased my Samsung Yep, it was much less expensive and had more features.

Cellphones, iPods, iPhones, mp3 players = "do not want," as the saying goes.

When an invention will detonate any cellphone at 50', let me know. I will buy one.

None for me, thanks.

Is it really so hard to integrate an FM radio into a portable device? Seems everyone but Apple is doing it. Since I prefer to listen to the radio in the morning during my workout, I've stayed away. Oh yeah, and the cost (like all things Apple) is too high to justify.

I've used various Sansa mp3 players until I recently picked up a first gen Zune 30. Integrated podcast support and a fully functioning FM radio are a winning combination for me.
