I have heard both good and bad things about both, now i just have to figure out which one would be better for me. I need one that has good sound, a big screen, easy enough to use, good software for putting songs and movies on it, small enough to put in my jeans pocket, and not really expensive. I have alot of music that im going to put on it and im going to be putting alot of full length movies on it also. Does anyone have any suggestions, ipod or zune???
You want something with a big screen and since you're putting lots of music and full length movies on it, you'll want something with high capacity. At $250, it's a good value. You might want to go ahead and download the Zune Marketplace software and play around with it. I don't own a Zune myself but would probably buy one if I was in the market for a higher capacity player. I'm mainly an iPod user, but I can't really recommend any of the current lines. The screen is too small on the iPod Classic. The iPod Touch doesn't have enough capacity for you and it is too expensive (btw I have one). The iPod Nano is cute, but the screen in even smaller than the Classic.
The Zune 80GB has no EQ not even presets, but the zune 30GB does.
i have a 30 gb video ipod and like it but the zune 80 seems very cool and if you have good headphones not having EQ settings should not matter to much
If you think you're going to want accessories like docks, cases, car cables, etc... then the iPod is the way to go hands down. Plus.... everything else aside, Apple has been doing this for years and the iPod is by far one of the slickest devices on the market. Great compatibility, style and function. You can't go wrong with an iPod.
Well i do already have like an ipod stereo and chargers and stuff but i mean its not that big of deal to me. If i decide i like the zune more ill just get stuff for it, so i mean it makes a little bit of a difference to me but not all that much. Im more worried about getting the right mp3 player then i am having to buy accessories for it.
I took a chance on pre-ordering a brand new Brown 30GB Zune last November. The price was $99 and got a $30 discount for using the store's credit card. I was so happy with my purchase because now the same item is sold for over $189. I also got an excellent deal on Altec Lansing M604 Speaker System for Zune with a Docking Station which work great. I love my Zune. It has a lot of features like nice size screen, a very good FM Radio, good bass, an equalizer, a wi-fi, etc. The controls are easy to use and user-friendly. The only problem that I had was the software. The CD that came with the Zune did not install properly in my HP Pavillion Windows XP Media Center 2005. I uninstalled it and downloaded and installed the software from zune.net. Microsoft has to fix a problem with the software. It persistently associate my .wma songs into the wrong albums and artists. It also screws-up the music ID tags in the original file which I had to fix myself. I went to zune.net, checked the Knowledge Base for the problem which didn't help. Calling the Zune Support line did not help either. I wasted 2 hours of my time. The support person I talked to promised to escalate the case to the higher technical support level and said that someone will call me with the solution but nobody called me back.
I noticed that only the .wma song formats are the ones that were having problems. The .mp3 formats are working fine. I thought it wouldn't hurt to convert the .wma to .mp3 format. Sure enough, it works. It is really nice to see the album picture with the title and artist as each song plays.
I was also able to transfer my pictures and videos to Zune. I converted my personal videos format from .mpg to .wmv9. The videos and sounds were excellent.
I have not figured out how to work the Podcast yet because I was more concerned about getting my songs, pictures and videos into it. One thing is for sure, you cannot transfer any copyrighted media into Zune. You can share a song with a friend and sync wirelessly using its wi-fi feature. I just wished that instead of a wi-fi, microsoft should have made Zune bluetooth enabled.
