$20 for iPod Touch Apps - Are you pissed?

by jthrock - 1/15/08 10:37 AM

I'm so mad that the they have free updates to apps for the iPhone, but people like me with an iPod Touch have to pay $20 for apps that have always been available for the iPhone. Plus new iPod Touches will already have these updates.

This is like the "$200 price drop" for the iPhone. Apple saying (hopefully only at first) screw you early adopters.

Raised my eyebrow

Yeah, it does smell a little bit like that wireless card upgrade fiasco they had a while back. I can't understand why they did not have these features at the very beginning.

I think that after several months, it's a fair "update fee"

by shawnlin - 1/15/08 11:02 AM In reply to: $20 for iPod Touch Apps - Are you pissed? by jthrock

...yet this "pay for the update" is a little unusual for an Apple premium product I think...is it? Yes, it sure smacks of the $200 price drop feelings too. The fact that the iPhone customers get it for free and the iPod touch users don't *might* be some deal with AT&T, but that's a little bit of a longshot idea...

$20 doesn't sound too bad though...although $0 sound better for the update...

Best,
Shalin

After several months maybe bbbbut,

I just bought mine less than 4 weeks ago. I wanted to wait to see if it was worth spending $300.00 for an iPod that has extremely less memory than the iPod classic with 30gb I purchased maybe a year and a half ago. After reading several reveiws (c|net I loves ya)I took the plunge and although I do believe the sound quality of the new generation of iPods is much better and I love the "touch" except for the small amount of memory, this $20.00 rip off is just so Steve Jobs.
He has been ripping off his customers for years and will continue to do so until someone comes out with an mp3 player that will play all formats including his beloved iTunes and has the sound quality that he has been able to capture in his machines.
I did read if you purchased the "Touch" after jan.1 '08 you may get the updates for free but I bought mine a few days after Christmas so I guess if I want the updates I'm stuck letting mr. jobs rob me of another 20.00,I think I'll pass because knowing how he works there will be more updates in the future and you'll get the whole bundle for free once he comes out with a "Touch" with much more memory for the same $300.00 the 16g retailed for.
I also think because many stores were selling the touch lower than the msrp might be why he's taking his 20.00 back.
Thank you c|net for keeping us up to date and for all the great things you give us for FREE!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the new Apple.

They are acting like they have fallin in love with Wall Street more than they love being the creators of much loved products that fill a niche that people appreciate.

Apple are you serious? Are you really that dumb?

by .-_-. - 1/15/08 12:54 PM In reply to: $20 for iPod Touch Apps - Are you pissed? by jthrock

Like a lot of people, sorry for those of who didn't, people received their iPod touch on Christmas (or shortly after Christmas like many people did when they bought it with there gift cards) and who's to stop people from returning the iPod and just buy another one at a later date? Did Apple think this one through all the way?

Yeah - I'm Pissed

by smaegley - 1/15/08 1:52 PM In reply to: $20 for iPod Touch Apps - Are you pissed? by jthrock

Ok, I get that applications aren't free. I get that it isn't unusual to charge for additional content (additional maps on Halo 3, additional maps on for a Garmin). But comon, the Touch I buy today is the exact same hardware as the one I bought 4 months ago. The only difference is the new Touch already has the update with the 5 apps for free. Why should you punish me for buying early. Why didn't you just increase the price by $20 for a new Touch as well? Don't **** off your biggest fans and advocates. Maybe they felt this was ok because none of the Touch early adopters are likely iPhone early adopters. Maybe nobody will notice? Maybe this is just another marketing campaign to get the Touch in all of the press? Average Americans saying, "hey you mean I can get an iPhone without a phone for $300."

Where do I sign up for my $10 iTunes gift card?

This has been the second Apple product I ever bought, the first was an iPod that broke after I used it about 10 times. I didn't have the receipt b/c it was a gift. After that I swore off against iPods forever... yeah it didn't stick. I guess technology is always fraught with disappointment.

Ow... that hurt : )

I see what you're saying, but Christmas is Christmas and the Touch was a nice gift. Also, where would Apple be at present if most people took your advice? They would be hurting - this is why Apple's lack of respect for early adopters peeves me off.

Yeah a little rialed

Given that the Touch has reduced in Price (at least here in Australia), I am a little miffed that I paid $50 extra for the iPod Touch and had to pay $24.99 Australian for the apps.

But of course I complain, but I paid and had a few hiccups installing them.

Ensure you turn off Manually Manage songs, cause it won't sync the apps over with this switched on.

I restored my iPod Touch TWICE before I found this handy little tip in the Mac Discussions.

of course I'm pissed!

It seems Apple likes to mess with early adapters of their products. So what's next? They going to charge iPod touch owners a fee for the unlock update so we can run third party apps when the time comes too?

They're pissing off their fans again.

early adopters are always screwed

by ktreb - 1/15/08 6:23 PM In reply to: $20 for iPod Touch Apps - Are you pissed? by jthrock

Realizing that, I'm not particularly troubled. And I was one of those early adopters.
