Same Problem

by bburrow - 1/14/08 7:52 AM In reply to: Mac G4 Quicksilver power up problem by cwood48

I have a dual 1 gig G4 Quicksilver with the same problem. I got it for free from a friend who couldn't get it to boot. I figured it was probably the battery and replaced that first.. Still no boot. The fans came on slowly, the red light on the motherboard was on steady and there was a slight clicking from the superdrive. I then tested the power supply, which appeared to be faulty. Where the wiring diagram showed it should be putting out 28v, it was only 15. I bought a new power supply and installed it, and I have the same problem. Doing searches, this seems to be a very common problem among quicksilvers. My father also had the same computer and his burned a hole through it's processor. I'm hoping that's not my problem as well.

Does anyone know how to verify whether it's the motherboard or cpu?

is about the only way to check this.

I assume you have tried all the other tips that are in this long thread?

I have not tried starting it up yet with the drives unplugged, which I will, but I have removed all components and made sure all connections were clean. I just don't have anything to substitute, unfortunately.. All my other macs use incompatible components.

probably the LogicBoard

I have a QuickSilver with identical problems.
The powersupply did not fix it.
Apple say, Logic Board or Processor.

I bit the bullet and let it go
